Charges: Man Hunting Squirrels Shoots Bow Hunter
November 20, 2007
STILLWATER, Minn. (AP) ― A 20-year-old Minneapolis man is charged with a felony after he allegedly fired a shotgun at what he thought was a squirrel and hit another hunter.
Washington County prosecutors charged Neng Xiong with felony discharge of a firearm on Tuesday in the hunting accident that wounded a bow hunter in Bayport Wildlife Management Area on Oct. 25.
The criminal complaint alleges that Xiong was hunting squirrels with a 20-gauge shotgun loaded with birdshot when he accidentally shot the other hunter, who was kneeling on the ground.
Xiong told investigators he saw something gray moving in some leaves and fired. The other hunter was about 40 feet away when he was hit in the back. He got birdshot from his waist to his head.
The wounded hunter was able to speak with sheriff's deputies shortly after being shot.

>> However, I believe Chia Vang lived in Mpls. Im thinking of the guy that shot and killed several people. There was another killing in the woods during hunting season in Wisc. that I think the Hmong guy killed another hunter with a knife.
Chai Vang was the Hmong guy who shot several hunters. Later on, a white hunter shot a different Hmong guy, “Cha Vang”, while both were hunting squirrels. Both shootings happened in Wisconsin. (Don’t know where the parties actually lived.)
I think I have that straight.
What the hell is in the water up in those North Woods?
Is there a bow season for squirrel?
“Is there a bow season for squirrel?”
It’s called getting bored in your stand while deer hunting.
This sounds like a more or less ordinary hunting accident (think Dick Cheney). I guess it is the bow hunter angle that makes it news?
Man Hunting Squirrels Shoots Bow Hunter
I was just thinking of another asian hunter the other day while in the woods. Does anybody remember that asian hunter who went crazy and shot a bunch of other hunters, including a dad and his son? He claimed it was self-defense or something like that.
Not being a hunter myself... aren’t hunters taught not to pull the trigger until they’ve positively identified what they’re aiming at?
And I know this doesn’t apply to Dick Cheney. Cheney was aiming at some birds, and the other guy happened to walk between the bird shot and the target.
>> Cha Vang was murdered (stabbed) this past January.
Ladysmith is right about what did him in: he was stabbed, after being shot.
“Nichols was accused of shooting and then stabbing Vang during a chance encounter while both were hunting in the Peshtigo Harbor Wildlife Area on Jan. 5. Nichols was wounded in both hands during the encounter and hid Vang’s body under leaves and log before leaving the woods.”

It makes the news because around here the media can’t pass up on a story that makes us hunters look bad.
Such as this story of a girl’s dead pony that was initially pegged on hunters, but was ruled a natural death today.

Thanks! I was just going on my (very poor) memory.
This guy violated the # 1 rule in hunting, identify your target.
Figures. The ‘Red Star’.
>> And I know this doesnt apply to Dick Cheney. Cheney was aiming at some birds, and the other guy happened to walk between the bird shot and the target.
Yeah, sure. That’s what it said in the “news”. (wink)
Truth is, here in Texas we have an attorney hunting season, and Mr. Cheney had a tag he wanted to use up.

This guy looks like he can’t tell a squirrel from a Chevy.
Yeah, we’ve has one or two of these a year ever since the boats started landing in the 70’s.
They would hunt songbirds in the city parks.
Angry moose.
In the south, it is intransigent attack rabbits.
No Damned excuses! You don’t put your finger on the trigger, based on suspicion! Hell, if I had fired, every time something moved, I would have run out of ammo, long ago!
that’s why i take 5 field points and on broad head.
Did I tell you what my neighbor saw one day years ago? Around the block from us were a Hmong family. Towards evening one day when she was out for a walk, she watched them as they were shooing in all kinds of pigeons into the house, like they were chickens. I wondered about the pigeons not flying off but she said they seemed pretty domesticated. Wondering if they clipped the wing feathers, too.
Anyway, I can just imagine what the inside of the house was like... ack!
