NEW YORK - Alex Rodriguez is ready to cash in.
Again.
Agent Scott Boras hinted yesterday that A-Rod will opt out of the final three seasons of his contract with the New York Yankees and seek a new deal in the free agent market that will lock him up through his pursuit of Barry Bonds home run record.
Boras negotiated Rodriguez record 10-year, $252 million agreement with Texas before the 2001 season, a contract the Yankees took on when they acquired A-Rod before the 2004 season. His next deal could last more than a decade.
Alex wants to be in one uniform for a long, long time, if not to the end of his career, Boras said of the 32-year-old third baseman, who likely will win his third AL MVP Award. I think Alex could play very reasonably until hes 45. So youre talking about a situation where we want this guy to be identified with one franchise and one uniform for a very long time.
I heard his agent is suggesting 300 million dollars worth of contract for this guy that can’t perform under playoff pressure.
Wow. I’m old enough to remember when Pete Rose became the first 100,000 dollar SINGLES HITTER in MLB.
And MLB wonders why its no longer ‘America’s Game’?
Sheesh, talk about a complete and utter disconnect with reality.
But I think any team would be foolish to overspend on A-Rod. Baseball isn't a sport where one player can win a World Series, no matter how hot he gets at the right time.
Stay far, far, away from A-Fraud, he’s clubhouse poison.
Well, Boras has a track record of asking for the moon and the stars---and getting it, too. He bamboozled the Sox into giving Nancy Drew a $70+ million contract. I don't know how he does it.
“As a Sox fan, I’d welcome A-Rod here-—”
Be careful what you wish for:
Boras is a blood sucker and A-Rod is a cancer. Don’t forget, when you get A-Rod, you get Boras. Also, everywhere A-Rod has been, they haven’t won, and since his big contract, they have under performed. When he was establishing himself with the Mariners they were decent, but still didn’t win it all.
I wouldn’t want him.
He’d be crazy to leave the Yankees. He’ll make more than 25 million per year in marketing products, commercials etc IF he stays in that market.
Generally I agree with you, except for one big exception: a #1 starting pitcher can make all the difference in the world, like Schilling did in '04.
I think A-Rod will wind up with the Angels, or the Dodgers.
I think the Angels, because he figures he can hit more HRs, by staying in the American League.
Yeah, the guy is a very good ballplayer. So is Barry Bonds. Neither is a team player.
We already have Boras here in Boston---Varitek, Matsusaka, and Drew. Seems like Epstein has no problem working with him.
A-Rod hitting in front of, or behind, Mad Vlad would be dynamic.
A Rod is my favorite post season .230 hitter! He is very consistent that way.
Boras negotiated Rodriguez record 10-year, $252 million agreement with Texas before the 2001 season, a contract the Yankees took on when they acquired A-Rod before the 2004 season.
This statement isn't exactly correct. The Yankees didn't take on A-Rod's entire contract when they traded for him in 2004 . . . the Rangers are still paying a huge chunk of his salary every year (this will no longer be the case if he opts out of the deal). This is probably the only reason the Yankees made that deal in the first place (historically, the Yankees have gone to great lengths to avoid doing business with any player who uses Scott Boras as his agent).
I'd expect him to play better than " very reasonably". The Sox don't need a C-Rod. ;-)
Happiness is New York without the Yankees.
As a Cardinal fan, I can better picture A-Rod batting behind Albert Pujols...Pujols might finally see a few strikes!
Unfortunately for the Red Sox, there's a very good chance Mike Lowell will be the next Yankee third baseman if Rodriguez opts out of his contract.
I remember here is Texas, he was terrible when runners were in scoring position. He would always slump early in the season, and by the time he started to produce, the Rangers were long out of the playoffs. The players couldn’t wait to be rid of him.
