WASHINGTON (AP) -- Science is confirming what most women know: When given the choice for a mate, men go for good looks.

And guys won't be surprised to learn that women are much choosier about partners than they are.

"Just because people say they're looking for a particular set of characteristics in a mate, someone like themselves, doesn't mean that is what they'll end up choosing," Peter M. Todd, of the cognitive science program at Indiana University, Bloomington, said in a telephone interview.

I agree, except that I'd qualify it by saying women CAN BE the civilizing factor.... for those women who have abandoned that role, those who disdain to care about family and two parents, those who prefer to join the reckless sex-fest that produces such astonishing rates of illegitimacy in certain "communities"..... those women have abandoned much or all of the civilizing role.

I tend to think both men and women are pretty good at determining what they can get and can't get, and set their goals and standards accordingly. For example, as the pic you posted proves, Ms Kaif is quite a beautiful woman, but I generally feel little attraction to women like her. Why? It's simple really: women like that are 'out of my league.' In this particular case, way out of my league. I tend to keep my expectations more, shall we say, realistic.

Its funny how you can take a set of facts and reach totally opposite conclusions. I read this study, and conclude that women can determine their primary interest; whether he has money or money potential, in the first five minutes. So only guys that meet that goal move on to the next round. On the other hand, a man can’t tell in 5 minutes what kind of mate the woman will make. Plus he knows that they are both lying through their teeth to impress the other. But the one thing he is sure of, if she is ugly, he isn’t interested in investing the time to learn if she is a good catch or not.
