EUGENE -- A 33-year-old man who was trying to hang himself from a construction crane not only failed but then survived an 85-foot fall when his rope broke.
According to a news release from Eugene police, the man had climbed out on a construction crane at a job site at 265 W. Eighth Ave. about 6:30 this morning and wrapped a flag from the crane around his shoulders.
Eugene police, firefighters and emergency medical workers were called, and members of the Crisis Negotiation Team also came to the scene.
They were trying to start talking to the man when he put a noose around his neck and hung himself from the crane.
But the rope failed and the man dropped, hitting plywood and wooden trusses, but narrowly missing construction materials, rebar and concrete posts. Police said the man was then taken to a local hospital. He was conscious, but the nature of his injuries wasn't yet known.
Eugene will do that to you...
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that he is making a cry for help.
If he was despondent over failure in life, this will not help.
More likely his brain is out of whack.
Another severe case of BDS syndrome in Eugene.
Obviously, this was/is Bush’ fault.
Seriously, I hope he can now receive the help he clearly needs.
This guy barely gets a jiggle on my “Give D*mn Meter”
I hope he makes a full recovery. I recall a teenage girl who tried to commit suicide by jumping from a bridge only to wind up a quadriplegic. She thought her life sucked before...
Please notify me via FReepmail if you would like to be added to or taken off the Oregon Ping List.
LOL! Those who have been there will know what you mean. I just returned from a week's visit there and my part of So. California is a conservative paradise in comparison.
I was born in So-Cal, lived it in the SF Bay area and moved to Eugene in '90. There are many conservatives living in the Eugene area.
I'll take living anyplace in Oregon (except for the Portland area) to living in CA. For one thing, you can't own one these in CA:
Bushmaster M4 A3 with 30 rd magazine.
True: the downtown liberal activists vs. the country "rednecks" [local name]. My comment stands. My daughter owns 40 acres in Cheshire so I know the difference. Be warned: San Francisco lesbians and gay males are buying up country property near Eugene as fast as it hits the market. Get ready for culture shock.
I felt like doing that when Dixon went down in Zona.
Go Ducks
They already run California. >:-}
There are many small business owners, doctors and other people in the medical field who are conservatives in Eugene.
It's a college town so you get lotsa liberals.
The whole state of California has gone in the toilet as far as I'm concerned, with its draconian gun laws.
I'm 77 and have observed many things in my life time.
Yes, with the Santa Monica lesbian duo running the CA Assembly and Nutless Arnold as governor, that's true. But watch out -- sadly, the same bunch will be running OR before long! They have the time, money and determination to get elected and change things to their way of thinking.

I'm sure that's true. I live in a Red Republican county in CA so your all-inclusive rant about CA isn't quite on the mark. Yes, CA gun laws suck but watch out! The big-city Portland voters, your Coastal Elite and the huge influx of new "Oregonians" are mostly liberals who don't like the sound of gunfire. Oregon's currently where CA was 10-15 years ago. Wait until the illegals get there in force and start voting for Democrats!

LOL! Don't give yourself airs -- you're only a year older than me. I've been around the block a few times myself!
No need to be so defensive ~ we’re having a conversation not an arm wrestling contest.
I don’t live in fear, so the gloom and doom predictions are wasted. I’m having way to much fun enjoying each day. >:-}
A little mending, a little therapy, and he'll walk out of the hospital a new man. And get run over by a bus. Well, I would, anyway...
Nothing defensive in my posts, amigo. I live my life to the full and I have a wonderful existence here in CA. I love the entire Western U.S. I'm Idaho born, still own property there and consider myself an Idahoan at heart. I've fished, prospected and hiked over big hunks of every Western state from Canada to Mexico.
But I still say Eugene's the Berkeley of Oregon, LOL! There are no daily in-your-face anti-war demonstrations where I live in CA, which was the point of my first post -- the one you took exception to.
Live long(er) and prosper.
