A crowd attacked and killed a passenger in a vehicle that had struck and injured a child, police said Wednesday.
Police believe 2,000 to 3,000 people were in the area for a Juneteenth celebration when the attack occurred Tuesday night. The man who was killed had been trying to stop the group from attacking the vehicle's driver when the crowd turned on him, authorities said.
The Austin Police Department identified the victim as David Rivas Morales, 40. The child was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police spokeswoman Toni Chovonetz said she had no further information, including how many people were involved.
The driver was able to get away is cooperating with investigators, police said.
Juneteenth marks the day Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston in 1865 to share news of the Emancipation Proclamation, which freed slaves two years earlier on Jan. 1, 1863.
The thread was moving fast, check the post times.
In any event, I'd practice what I preached if I were you.
For sure they will charge the driver.....
He'll suck up to certain "elements" of our city and therefor no perp will be captured, or if captured, justice to be done.
It was the Juneteenth celebration, when the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas, so we can guess who the perps are.
Doesn't say that either. In fact it doesbn't say he is at fault for anything. Perhaps the "kid" ran out from between parked cars (stealing hubcaps)
It says simply, that he is co-operating with police. It wasn't a hit and run.
We have no way to know the circumstances at this point. Maybe the kid ran out into the street after a ball - that’s not the driver’s fault. On the other hand, he could have been drunk out of his mind and aimed for the kid. We don’t know either way. Since there is no mention of any charges, I think the presumtion must be it was a accident - but that could change as the facts emerge.
I think it’s like “eleventyflaven” in the South.
Well, we’ll see.
The African-American community has cultural differences with any other community that claims minority status and never suffered the pains of slavery.
there.....is that better?
If it is determined that the driver committed a crime, they will charge him and release his name.
I wrote to breitbart to see why they didn’t list the races involved, and to ask what they are.
Just a guess, but I think they have to actually indentify the suspects before anybody’s charged with a crime.
I had some fried chicken last night.
which minority group has never suffered the pains of slavery?
Or is black slavery and opression in America the only kind that counts?
Yeah, I think that’s it.
It doesn't matter the circumstances. Accidents occur all the time. If the driver was drunk, detain him until the cops arrive. What is alarming here the the way the crowd reacted by murdering the vehicle passenger, when in fact the kid victim did not suffer any lift threatening injuries.
This is just brutal Somalia type, chaos.
Texans knew of the proclamation when it was made. It was kept a secret.
Exactly. I bet nobody will stop for an accident in that neighborhood now.
Maybe the police and MSM are covering up a black crowd attacking a Muslim terrorist driver who tried to plow through a crowd. And then crowd killed the Muslim’s drunk illegal Mexican passenger.
There you go. Much better coverup story. (sarc)
Minority on minority lawbreaking cancels out hate crime.......that’s saved for special media events only !
There are significant and disastrous circumstances in store for the “good folks” of Durham...
The civil law suites haven’t even begun, and I hope they will be both extensive and expensive for the folks of Durham, the county and perhaps even the State...
Perhaps after suffering the cost of being racist assholes, the concept of bad actions lead to bad consequences will sink in.
