Amen.
I haven't been on the "front lines" of GUI development for a while a Google search shows that my impression of Safari is a few years out of date. It looks like it's considerably less buggy than it was in earlier releases (then again, what isn't? Oh yeah, IE.)
The latest Firefox won’t let me fill in my electronic timesheet, which is hosted online. I’ve been doing it for the last few days on Internet Explorer (Aieeeeee!!) or at home on Safari - no problems with that, thank you very much.
They have every motivation in the world to try to attract the attention of Windows users. Giving Win-users Safari costs them nothing, and puts one more instance of the Apple logo on the Win desktop. One more potential Win-user to be seduced to the Apple side.
With VMware's Fusion for the Mac, I can run Mac OS, Windows (XP and/or Vista), Linux, BSD, and whatever else you name, all concurrently. But only on Apple hardware.
If you want to run Mac OS, you buy Mac hardware. Then you can run everything else too, even all at once. I'm doing it as I type, it's a gas. OS-X 10.4, Win-XP, Fedora Core 4 Linux, NetBSD 3.1, and (OMG!) DOS 7.1. They can share files (Samba) and even cut/paste text between OSes.
Apple's not stupid, and their hardware prices are constantly becoming more competitive. They are rapidly becoming the hardware platform of choice.
not a pc it’s not.

dang near suck the life out of your pc.
on a mac it feel more at home but seems to cause problems on some multimedia type sites.
firefox isn’t perfect either on a mac sometimes it really screws up some websites layouts.
imo: IE is the best and fastest, to bad it is like sharing a needle while having sex with a hooker. ever time you go on the net, you are going to catch something.
i use firefox because it feels the same on every OS. i like that.
I pulled down the Safari beta today at work - it’s pretty slick. I have a mac here at home and love Safari. I can’t wait until leopard is out.
Of course, Drudge has a story about how Apple used the occasion of their conference to kick the Republicans in the nads... Oh well, as long as they don’t run linux, I guess that’s ok.
And coincidently, it will also run on the new Iphone.
This is being posted on Safari btw.
Going back to Firefox.....
And Safari (in contrast to what they state) was slower, too.
I think your post is spot on.
Nor does it seem to save sessions, and it doesn’t appear to be as customizable as Firefox.
Why would you run more than one operating system at the same time? An actual question.

Because I want to run different applications that only are available, or work best, in different OSes. For instance, Citrix GoToMeeting is only available for Windows, iPhoto is only on MacOS, etc.
I've always got half a dozen windows open to different tasks -- it's how I work. Email in one, a few browser windows on different sites, a Word doc, a spreadsheet or powerpoint, GoToMeeting, Skype, a text editor, a few xterms to the Unix boxes, etc. Back in the bad old days I had to either be dual-booting all the time (lost productivity) or have an array of machines on my desk and a KVM switch. Using VMs (virtual machines) is the perfect solution.
Thanks.
FWIW, I've been more or less OS-agnostic for 30+ years of computing, with times as a Mac-head, Unix-head, DOS-head, Linux-head, even (I admit) a Windows-head. I use what works best for the tasks at hand, and don't get into religious battles, because although they all have their good points, nothing is perfect, and at some level they all suck, too.
At different times of day, I'm on FreeRepublic with my Linux box (like now), or my Mac, or my Windows machine. It doesn't really matter to me; usually I'm Freeping in one window while (allegedly!) working in another couple of windows...
Virtual machines (VMs) changed my life. I can now have it all on one piece of hardware. The fact that it happens to be a Mac is nice, I like their styling. But that's secondary.
Sorry—I’ve used both. Safari sux. Firefox puts Safari in the shade in so many ways. Safari isn’t better in any way.
Where have you run into rendering errors with Firefox? Or had it refuse to load a page??

Your response has brought up another question: how do you run two operating systems at the same time on the same computer? Have only tried running more than one OS on a single computer recently (a computer with Windows broke down, and some freepers suggested that Linux be used), and to get on Linux, it was selected in the boot menu (although the Puppy Linux desktop did have tab on the bottom with Windows in it (but it didn't work)......). Is it similar to having multiple browser windows open at the same time, and there's some way that toggle between OSs. Curious.
