We don't know the woman, the dog may be better off with a better caretaker than this woman anyway. At any rate, I bet this is going to be a happy dog in the end and someone who really loves dogs and takes care of them will readily take this one into a loving home.

I am in perfect agreement with you. She has six dogs and get find room for (one more) the one who saved her. Really strange.

It truly amazes me that the dog could see this happen... and process the information into sensing that she needed help from other people, and the road was the place that help could be found.

It's like that story from some time ago about a dog that was somehow injured (hit by a car? I forget) and was all busted up and cut and bleeding, but limped some distance to a hospital and went in the emergency doors, and collapsed there. Somehow he knew what a hospital was for.

Awesome story ~ thanks for the ping, HOTD!

Although, like others on here, I'm pretty disappointed that she couldn't find room in her heart (& her home) for this geniune Hero....

Is he in a home yet?

If he was *really* smart he would've taken the opportunity to check her purse for an address while he was tragging her to the road.

That way, when he gets out of doggie jail, he could find her house and pee on her flowers. :-)

Congratulations on your new dog! I agree -- rescue pups are the best!

Here's my shelter dog -- 50% border, 50% shepherd, 100% as protective as the pup in this article (but not as interested in strangers)!

And here's the puppy we picked up by the side of the highway where she had been dumped -- she's the best kids' dog I've ever seen!

Well, let's see what happens. Even if Hero isn't selected for SAR training, I suspect he'll end up in a good home.

Glad this turned out the way it did but if a German Shepard homeless stray dog dragged me off into the thick woods I'd have to figure he was going to eat me.

I read a story sometime back about a young girl who was attacked by two men. From out of nowhere came two strays that attacked the men and drove them off. No one in the neighborhood remembered the two dogs ever being around. In this case, the family of the young girl did adopt the two dogs after checking the area to see if they belonged to anyone.

Are you saying the Amish run the shelters or the puppy mills? Sorry to be obtuse.

Aw..they are nice looking dogs.

I just got back with my new addition to the family. He's a four year old bichon frise.
My other dog and my cat are giving him the once over, hopefully they will all get along.

They run puppy mills not shelters.

See the link in post #38.
