Wow, who says that dogs don't have intelligence?
To: Kaslin
"Hero," pulled her by her collar off the trunk and dragged her about 50 yards through briars to the edge of a highway and let her lean against him so that she could stand up and flag a passing motorist Why did the dog take the path through the briar patch instead of the open woods? Seems like it may have a sadistic side...

If I were her there would be no way that dog would end up not coming to live with us.

Too bad the dog pounds are so full of stray and abandoned German shepherds who are potential "heroes". Those big boys love to roam if they are left alone without companionship.

Agreed.
This is a wonderful story.
Speaking of shelter dogs, today I'm driving over an hour to get a dog from a foster home. He was rescued from one of the many horrible puppy mills in Lancaster, PA. Most of which are ran by the Amish.
I'm hope everybody who wants a pet goes to a shelter, there are many great animals there like this one mentioned in the article.
To: Kaslin
am considering immediate contact w/shelter to offer home to "HERO" if he fails to 'get hired' for search and rescue.

I don't care if I had 46 dogs, that dog would be coming home with me.

He flunked out of Rescue Dog School. Just couldn't remember the do-not-drag-the-human-thru-the-pickie-bushes-part of the test. He's been living on the streets looking for work ever since.....;)

"If I were her there would be no way that dog would end up not coming to live with us"I'm baffled that she would not take that stray in. What a wonderful dog.
To: homegroan
If she wasn't delirious, it must have been at least a little funny. "Thank God you saved me. Good dog! Ah! Ow! Oh! Uh! Bad dog! Bad dog!"

Wonder why the Amish got into puppy mills?
