Some parents in a South Jersey school district are upset that 3rd graders were shown an award winning diversity video about families - that includes same-sex couples in the story.
The Evesham school district - along with several others around the State - is using a video, called "That's a Family" in their health classes.
John Zlock, a spokesman for the Jersey Department of Education, says each district makes its own decision about whether or not to use the video, but the States core curriculum content standards require "as early as grade 2, that children should be able to identify different kinds of families, and explain that families may differ for many reasons."
He says "it's important for children to learn just how diverse a family can be and we all know that living in New Jersey, it's a very diverse State, and children should be able to have those discussions."
Steven Goldstein, the Chairman of the group Garden State Equality, says he's shocked that anyone would have a problem with this video, because it has won several awards and "it was shown at the White House in 2000- before educators and child advocates from across the country who praised the film."
He adds if people don't feel comfortable with having their kids see That's a Family, "maybe New Jersey is not the right place for them."
Several calls to the Evesham school district were not answered.
I'm constantly amazed by the intolerance expresssed by the tolerant towards those whom they consider *intolerant*.

Contact ADF (Alliance Defense Fund), and AFA (American Family Association. They are currently fighting this crap in MA, and they know what they are doing. You probably have branches in NJ that they can refer you to. They can help you fight it, and help you get publicity about it. Both are affiliated with each other, and both are accessible online.
And I have no doubt that the KKK gave awards for videos of lynchings. Aren't all award winning movies great?!?!
When I was in the first grade, we had a poster on our wall showing "different families," including single parent and divorced. Even back then, the public schools were trying to brainwash us at an early age. Promoting pederasty is but a small step forward from what was taught in my youth.
More marketing of deviance to younger and younger targets. I suspect the future holds open participation by NAMBLA members instead of shielding the true identity of many participants.
That's the goal. Youth is the homosexual target from every angle of the agenda. And for purely self-seeking reasons.
The normalisation of pederacy is certainly a priority, as well as attempting to change social thinking by targetting the youth (the future adult citizens and voters).
Changing attitudes of children to homosexuality will kill two birds with one stone for predatory homosexuals, if you get my drift.
add me too, thanks.
I heard that bill was signed by Corzine that lowered property taxes, regarding school funding.
Isn't that the same bill where the state legislature now does not require schools in NJ to teach the significance of Veterans Day, Memorial Day and Thanksgiving???? I know the bill was A-17 but cant find if that is the same bill he just signed.
Last year one of the people from the curriculum office asked me is I was comfortable in teaching about, get this masturbation.
I told them that if it became part of the curriculum they could find another teacher because I would NOT teach it.
She actually seemed relieved, telling me that the questions was presented to the board of education by someone in the community, (our local lefty activist)
Even Corzine knew it was political sucide to sign this into law.

Here's hoping that bill sponsor Sen. John Adler, D-Camden does not win re election. Seeing he is from Camden that might be wishful thinking, but I hear he is under investigation for some sweet deal he arranged last year.
Corzine Vetoing Bill On Veterans' Memorials
(CBS/AP) TRENTON
Declaring it was important to ensure "our kids understand the sacrifices people have made," Gov. Jon S. Corzine on Monday vowed to veto parts of a bill that would abolish requirements New Jersey schools teach about Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Corzine said he will conditionally veto the bill that unanimously passed the Legislature in December.
The bill would abolish a state law requiring schools teach about the two veterans commemorations, along with other holidays. The proposals were part of a measure intended to help control property taxes by eliminating costly state requirements.
A conditional veto allows the governor to object to parts of a bill and propose amendments that would make it acceptable. If the Legislature re-approves the bill with the governor's recommendations, it can be presented again to the governor for his signature.
Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said the governor could issue his conditional veto as early as Monday.
Corzine, taking calls on New Jersey 101.5 FM radio, said a conditional veto was especially appropriate "when our men and women are putting their lives in harm's way."
"I think actually that sometimes in the enthusiasm to do things, that we sometimes trample on fundamental principles and concerns," Corzine said.
The bill had angered veterans, who argued that children should be required to hear about the sacrifices and experiences of veterans.
"We're very pleased that he's feeling the way he is," said Ray Zawacki, a Vietnam War Navy veteran and department adjutant for the American Legion of New Jersey. "Apparently he's listening to his veterans' constituency and shares our concerns."
Other holidays about which schools no longer would be required to teach include Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Arbor Day and Commodore Barry Day, which commemorates Revolutionary War hero John Barry.
But Coley said Veterans Day and Memorial Day are Corzine's primary concerns.
"We're glad," said Al Bucci, New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars legislative director. "We're happy. Once you take away the mandated teaching, eventually it won't be taught."
Bill sponsor Sen. John Adler, D-Camden, and a bill supporter, the New Jersey School Boards Association, have said the bill wasn't meant to slight veterans, but to give schools more flexibility to decide holiday celebrations and curriculum.
Republicans had vowed a push to maintain the requirements, which called for teaching about veterans on the last school day before the holidays.
"We run the risk of having future generations take for granted the freedoms all of our veterans have secured for them," said Assemblywoman Alison Littell McHose, R-Sussex, whose husband is a New Jersey Army National Guardsman who has been deployed to Guantanamo Bay. "As a military wife, I know the sacrifices of veterans and their families have been far too great and many to leave this to chance."

School District Lets Parents View Controversial Diversity Video
Parents outraged by a diversity video that includes same-sex parents had the chance on Monday to view the tape for themselves.
(snip)
Tuesday's meeting starts at 7 p.m. According to the district's letter, administrators will hold a discussion session with parents following the screening.
School officials also said they are making arrangements to host possibly hundreds of parents at next month's, school board meeting. [Evesham Township School District]
