Time for a new political party [Good luck with all that - Zot!]

Posted on 12/19/2006 5:29:03 PM PST by 9999lakes

It may well be time for a new conservative political party. The republicans have failed, and failed big-time to deliver for conservative causes. They seem inclined to nominate CINO only like Rudy Guliani or John McCain, and neither of those candidates is gonna do one thing for conservative issues.

Said another way, the republicans are part of the problem, and no part of any solution.

But it IS time, to make substantive changes, and the GOP seems not to be part of them.

If we get all the members of FR to join, how many members does this party have?

Last weekend former Rep. Bob Barr left the GOP and joined the Libertarians. Ron Paul could have said: "Been there, done that!"

Considering that most good conservatives are already pubbies, why not reform the party. Third party is a ticket to nowhere. Ask Patsy Buchanan.

About a tenth as many as the Constitution Party, which already promises to do the same thing. ;)

For the last two years I've been telling everyone who would listen that the first Tuesday in November was a day to stay home. Many did.

Now it's time to think about bolder things.

The republicans have failed us.

Gee, has it occurred to you to actually start working at the local level and get qualified candidates on the ballot?

You're NOT going to have success with any kind of 'splinter' group ...

Not sure. I think it's around not-quite-enough.

However, you are correct. I've been voting outside the Republicrat party for quite a while; independent, libertarian, etc. It's a long row to hoe.

Well you could join the Constipation Party and save yourself the trouble....

They are just about as irrelevant as any other 3rd party out there...

I know what you mean. If any of most of the proposed candidates gets the nomination, unless they pick Tancredo, I'll likely vote Constitution Party in 08. And I would hate to do so, as they should not run presidential candidates until they get candidates elected to higher offices than state legislatures.

What candidate?

I don't know, but it IS the vital question.

Is there anyone out there named Abraham Lincoln?

We should have gone with Pat Buchanan 6 years ago. The republicans have been a disaster.

Yes. Splinter groups are a recipe for electing democrats. Too many groups, not enough voters.
Trying to get a "qualified" candidate on the ballot is a good idea, however, the qualified candidates are too conservative for the majority of the voting block in any given district.
Am I sounding defeatist? Sorry. I just don't see any way out of the current situation. Well, there are ways. But, that's for another thread.
