Official Free Republic Snow Day Thread
weather.gov (as if we needed expert confirmation) ^ | 11-30-06 | sully777

Yesterday, Tulsa saw temperatures drop from 70 degrees F to 45 degrees F within one minute's time. Tornado watches were issued ahead of the front with spotty reports of hail. As the storm progressed through Tulsa, thunderstorms pummeled the region with heavy rain and dangerous lightning (one strike hit a Catoosa home and burned it to the ground).

The rain continued unabated throughout the evening giving some parts of drought-striken Oklahoma three to four inches of rain with the remaining counties receiving at least two inches of precipitation.

Temperatures continued to drop in the overnight. The rain became ice and sleet until the region was covered with at least an inch of ice by daybreak. Currently, we are experiencing thunder ice storms. The NWS predicts 2-4 inches of ice to accumulate, then the storms will convert to thunder snowstroms in the afternoon hours. Accumulations of snow are expected to total 7 to 10 inches by Friday morning with higher amounts in various isolated areas. Winds are gusting to 35 mph so the NWS is predicting near blizzard conditions with drifting expected.

Friday and Saturday's outlook calls for frogs, water turning to blood, and off and on periods of fire and brimstone.

I guess you're not going anywhere when you open the door and see this...

I, on the other hand, live where it rarely rains, let alone snows...except in the high, high country. And I really miss the snow.

Weather.com says it's snowing on me here in North Dallas, but it's not. A little rain and about 40ish outside.

Great day for a round of golf if I wasn't stuck in the office.

When I was a kid I used to dream of digging a tunnel through the snow until I met up with my neighbor's house. Then we'd string lights up and have snow ball fights.

Smacks hand to forehead! Why didn't I think of EBay? I'll check that out where I have them for our future Winter Storm Warning Days.

Thanks for the reminder.

Nice job. My chiropractor claims he can butcher a deer in less than an hour.

This is amazing weather...at my house it isn't snowing or anything, yet....but just 2 miles away it is so bad that the freeway is impassable...yikes.

I also picked up a pair of Uggs. They have them at TJ Max for a lot less than retail. You'll want the classic or tall and I promise your feet will stay warm--with the leg warmers. Uggs are worn without socks (so cozy), so get a size smaller.

That's about right with a good clean shot. If you make a mess, it takes a little longer. :)

I flew out of Chicago yesterday and am currently enjoying balmy New Orleans! Kind of hope I get delayed going back to Chicago on Sunday! Loving New Orleans!

Did Bambi return to her family?

Actually it's a boy deer.

FYI, Bambi was a buck.

Hmm, looks like the Uggs are going to be something I'd have to do by online shopping. Looks like the closest TJ Maxx to me is in Oklahoma City. In the 5 years I've lived in SW Ok, I've been to the City a grand total of 4 times. We usually do most of our shopping over in Lawton since its quite a bit closer.

I'm a little hesitant about buying footwear online since I have a wide foot and usually need to try shoes on first before I buy.

It's now snowing quite heavily. They're pretty, large fluffy flakes too. If it keeps up at this rate, we may actually get the 6 inches they were forecasting initially.

After being raised in Houston where it wasn't uncommon for Christmas Day to be in the 70's-80's, I love the cold weather! Something about cold weather gets me into a Christmas mood. I've even been thinking about doing some baking and candy making.

It's been a long time since my kids were that small and I saw the movie, but thinking back, you are right! I stand corrected.

You sent your bitter cold down here to Austin, please take it back. I was wearing shorts, sandals and a t-shirt yesterday.
