UMT makes some sense; UMS doesn't.

Problem with a large standing army of conscripts is simple ~ corrupt politicians, particularly the Democrats, will toss the troops into a large war that results in a lot of deaths without a second thought.

Personally I believe democrats voted for this war so they would have a pile of bodies to campaign on top of.

No.

Isn't it obvious, that they want a draft to stir up opposition to the war? The intention is to re-create the Vietnam scenario, at least to some extent. But everyone knows it's just a lot of hype, Democratic B.S.

They don't like a volunteer army because the vast majority of the people fighting actually support the war.

If the dems are in charge, a draft will have to be instituted. No one would volunteer to fight for a group of nut jobs that have no clear goal in mind and who will abandonen the military at the drop of a hat.

"If the dems ..."
No "if" about it, too many rinos survived the election to stand firm. I think there will be a drop off in enlistments.

Rangel served during the Korean "War."

Truman said, in 1950, that he was sending our troops on a "police action" in Korea to deal with "bandits."

During the remaining three years that Democratic Truman was president (1950-52), 30,000 US troops lost their lives in Korea.

Interesting insight.

Would someone mind explaining to me why I should feel good the end of the draft created the environment that brought about both women in combat and homosexuals serving in any military capacity? Don't misinterpret my questions. I'm entirely cognizant our military would be woefully undermanned this moment if special accommodations hadn't been made for women, homosexuals, and also non-citizens that comprise 4 to 5 percent of our military force now.

Since this issue has been highly politicized, it would be most appropriate a Republican defend the abandonment of conservative principles that were opposed to women in combat and homosexuals in the military specifically.

Seems to me we tossed the baby with the bath water.

How ludicrous. The same patriotic heroes will enlist as always.

Of course, the population of Canada will double overnight. I say good riddance. Don't come back.

But, I always find they replace one being Freeped with an inane one of no significance.
