SkyLab
America's First Space Station
Skylab is "cool" for a variety of reasons. First, it is a manned space exploration subject. Second, it was a spin-off of the Apollo Programme. Third, it is an example of how to make the most of what you have on hand. Also, Skylab is a story of determination and missed opportunities. In addition, there was a bit of hoopla surrounding Skylab. There were commemorative medallions, bottles, stamps, and other items. NASA intended for the Shuttle to operate with Skylab, but the Shuttle programme was about two years behind schedule. Congressional cuts deprived NASA of the funds to boost Skylab into a higher orbit and replace failing gyroscopes - the station was allowed to re-enter the Earth's atmosphere on 11 July 1979.
Skylab Launch: 14 May 1973. Severe damage was sustained during launch, including the loss of the station's micrometeoroid shield/sun shade and one of its main solar panels. Debris from the lost micrometeoroid shield further complicated matters by pinning the remaining solar panel to the side of the station, preventing its deployment and thus leaving the station with a huge power deficit.
Skylab I: 25 May 1973. Pete Conrad, Paul Weitz, and Joseph Kerwin. The station underwent extensive repair during a spacewalk by the first crew. Lasted 28.03 days.
Skylab II: 28 July 1973. Alan Bean, Jack Lousma, and Owen Garriott. Lasted 59.46 days.
Skylab III: 16 November 1973. Gerald Carr, William Pogue, and Edward Gibson. Lasted 84.05 days.

Did I mention today that I really, really love you? THAT angel you can send my way, anytime (said in a Mae West voice, LOL)
De nada. I am just NOW checking in today - I have been in the university library all afternoon and I was busy doing other things this morning.
**I am on time and on my game tonight, folks**
Aren't you always? ;)
Well, last night I returned home later than anticipated and I lost the ping list...
But I do thank you for the most kind compliment!
Hey, no one's perfect :)
Yummy!!!
Well, the thread did get posted and, thanks to help from Darkangel82 the folks were pinged. Thanks to help from fellow FReepers, all went well.
LOL!! Good one!
Boy, you sound like me. I went to the Republican Meet site after reading your post, but got put off by all the personal questions first. Just let me browse! E-Harmony couldn't help me either. I might join the other site you mentioned, as I am one of those older ladies you mentioned. I saw a few posts from men, but you had to join to see any real detail. I'm not in the mood tonight. But thanks for the heads up re the sites; at least I have some new places to look.
The thread is quiet...too quiet.
I am typing and watching Kelly's Heroes.
I got distracted. There's lots of stuff to see on the internet lol.
Hi Dolly!
I can't believe the magic of FR. I wasn't looking for "someone", just having online discussion and fun with friends.
She wasn't looking for someone either. She was doing the same.
Over the course of a year she had caught my eye. One night, in June, I said, "What the hell" and PM'd her with a phone number.
I had VOIP and we started talking for many hours. There was so much in common that it was errie.
After all the phone talk, it became time to meet face to face. It happened on Oct 20 and after a tentative start we really hit it off!
On my 12&1/2 hour drive back to Minnesota I had a lot of time to think about what had happened.
On 25 Oct we were talking and I popped the question. She said yes and now we are pre-engaged. I will formally give her a ring on December 1st, my parents 60th wedding anniversary.
CAUTION! Free Republic holds many surprises..
Right now she is working and I'm watching "24" and feeling good. It will be even better after April 28.
FR ROCKS!

In todays world it is at least easier keeping in touch long distances. You never know what might happen.

I agree it is a gamble and it is up to the individual to decide which risk is worth taking.
I just don't even know where to start looking for members of the opposite sex locally, I just moved to Alabama from New Jersey.
Where are you in Alabama and what brought you there? I don't know that much about Alabama, but I've driven through the state quite a few times.
