Hi Dolly!
I can't believe the magic of FR. I wasn't looking for "someone", just having online discussion and fun with friends.
She wasn't looking for someone either. She was doing the same.
Over the course of a year she had caught my eye. One night, in June, I said, "What the hell" and PM'd her with a phone number.
I had VOIP and we started talking for many hours. There was so much in common that it was errie.
After all the phone talk, it became time to meet face to face. It happened on Oct 20 and after a tentative start we really hit it off!
On my 12&1/2 hour drive back to Minnesota I had a lot of time to think about what had happened.
On 25 Oct we were talking and I popped the question. She said yes and now we are pre-engaged. I will formally give her a ring on December 1st, my parents 60th wedding anniversary.
CAUTION! Free Republic holds many surprises..
Right now she is working and I'm watching "24" and feeling good. It will be even better after April 28.
FR ROCKS!

wow, this all came down quickly & recently!
You are in Minnesota & she is where? (you said 12.5 hours)
are you going to live one of the two places or somewhere entirely different?
that long drive does give one pause for thinking/decisions.Getting acquainted on line helps to get to know the person in a lot of ways before things get clouded up with "emotions"..not really bad.
Have her join us here too to say hi!
Kate of Spice Island was married not long ago & her hubby relocated to her hometown.
Thanks for sharing your story. I haven't met the "man of my dreams" here yet at FR but I have met (face to face) a WHOLE lot of wonderful people..and sometimes what starts as friendship can evolve into more. You are proof that ONE NEVER KNOWS!
