THE HAUNTED PALACE

BY E. A. POE, ESQ.

In the greenest of our valleys
By good angels tenanted,
Once a fair and stately palace —
Snow-white palace — reared its head.
In the monarch thought's dominion —
It stood there!

Never Seraph spread his pinion
Over fabric half so fair.
Banners yellow, glorious, golden,
On its roof did float and flow —
This — all this — was in the olden
Time long ago —

And every gentle air that dallied,
In that sweet day,
Along the rampart plumed and pallid,
A winged odour went away.
All wanderers in that happy valley,

Through two luminous windows saw
Spirits moving musically
To a lute's well tuned law,
Round about a throne where sitting (Porphyrogene!)
In state his glory well befitting,

The sovereign of the realm was seen.
And all with pearl and ruby glowing
Was the fair palace door ;
Through which came flowing, flowing, flowing,
And sparkling evermore,

A troop of echoes, whose sweet duty
Was but to sing
In voices of surpassing beauty,
The wit and wisdom of their king.
But evil things in robes of sorrow,
Assailed the monarch's high estate!

Ah, let us mourn — for never morrow
Shall dawn upon him desolate!
And round about his home the glory,
That blushed and bloomed,
Is but a dim-remembered story
Of the old time entombed.

And travelers now within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows, see
Vast forms that move fantastically
To a discordant melody;

While, like a rapid ghastly river,
Through the pale door;
A hideous throng rush out forever,
And laugh — but smile no more.<

Yeah...I have to hope the last of my money doesn't run out before I get home. I've still got to pay bills for December. I don't think anyone's getting Christmas presents this year.

Dolly,

I'm afraid that I never saw Snakes on a Plane. I've heard good and bad about it, but I wasn't interested enough to go to a theater. Maybe I'll see it on video someday.

I've had a long day at the plant, so I won't do much good on the thread tonight. Maybe I'll be able to do it tomorrow, but I'm going to help a friend move a glass shop for much of the day tomorrow.

Bill

The thinking of someone you have not seen for ages and then they contact you or just walk round the corner of the street when you are out is something I believe we all experience.

I have heard it referred to as the universal unconscious what is your take on this ?

I can empathize with that I still dream about my nan and gradually now mum at the time it is so real and then you wake up and realise what you were dreaming about is 10 or 15 years previously or something that could have been 10 or 15 years ago if it did not happen.

I usually buy presents for my parents and my brothers but I don't think that's gonna happen this year. I barely have enough money to pay bills.

Guy Fawkes the anniversary of the plot that was foiled to blow Parliament up.

Children make guys (figures a bit like scarecrows) and they are burnt on a bonfire on the 5th November or in most cases the nearest Saturday.

The childrene go door to door a bit like trick or treaters but with the refrain penny for the guy. What is supposed to happen is that this money goes to some charity but often the kids just keep the money for themselves.

It is often referred to as Firework Night as well because we also let fireworks off. There will be offiical displays and events as well as people just doing it in their own garden.

There are also bonfire societies in Sussex the next county to me and then have a parade in the street, here is a link to some of their photos

I haven't heard that term before. I'm sure other people experience it, but strangely, no one I've talked to about it has.

I do think we all get signs or warnings about things, if we just open our eyes to see them.

Sounds interesting moving a glass shop do you mean a greenhouse?

Or do you mean a glass shop in sense of a store selling glassware?

I'm feeling the need to leave. They probably would freak out if they knew though; they'll hate to lose me. But it's just sort of time to find something a little more ambitious.
