A good response would be that given that the SS was in the vice grip of the Bush Family Evil Empire there was nothing that would have happened to him there.

Two primary reasons.

1. It is not the job of the Secret Service to run around screaming "We're all gonna DIE!!" and bring the President along with them.

2. The President was not in active danger at that moment.

Had the day's events been different - namely, if we had suddenly heard that instead of airliners and skyscrapers, it was suicide bombers targeting and killing the Speaker of the House, the Vice President, the head of the FBI and other senior officials at public engagements - then I think we can safely assume that the Secret Service would have removed the President immediately. However, it was clear that the 9/11 events were mass attacks and not personally directed.

Tentative IBTZ issued.

1. He was not in immediate danger.
2. He's always a target.

Do you have another question? Welcome to FreeRepublic.

Here on FR, it's considered bad form to post a vanity topic (i.e. your own question) in Breaking News. Had you posted this in Chat or Bloggers/Personal, you'd have gotten less flak from people. It's also considered proper to include (Vanity) in the title of your thread, if it is a personal question or rant.

They had some information that a terror attack was likely that week, so the entire area was under surveillance by the Secret Service and therefore they knew he was safe at the school. Any other questions, troll?

What is a good response for those who question why the Secret Service did not immediately remove Bush from the classroom on 9/11 when, at the time, it would have been reasonable to consider him a target?

The same good response to you, newb:

If I remember rightly, my above average memory tells me the SS DID want to remove him immediately from the classroom but he didn't want to panic the children. He made a calm exit minutes later without arousing them, whereas Kerry and his cohorts in the capital sat stunned, speechless, in shock and frozen to the spot probably soiling their depends, for 25 minutes after they'd been told.

Before the president travels anywhere- there is an enormous amount of security screening that goes on..that we never know about. September 11 was no different. There was a WIDE net of safety around him then, as there is today.

As to his own personal thinking and reasoning and why he didn't jump up and leave in mid-sentence, that has been covered. He's answered those questions. It's reasonable to imagine a different president would have chosen to respond in another way...which would have been just as proper- or improper- depending on your point of view.

I didn't take issue with his choice. Erring on the side of caution and prudence as you put it...goes to the continual tension between the president and the SS past, present and future.

Even though you're a troll, I'll tell you so nobody with half a brain comes by and buys into your logic.

1. First graders are not members of a terrorist organization.

2. For the terrorists to attack the elementary school with aircraft, they would have to know it's location and be able to find and target it from the air at about 400 miles per hour. As far as an attack on the ground, security doctrine requires that you not have the president sitting in the open for long periods, which means you only move him to the motorcade when the motorcade is going somewhere and he will be able to move to the next step as soon as you arrive. That brings u8s to the next reason...

3. Air Force One does not just leap into the air. Safe flights take time. Why move the president from a target that would be impossible to attack (the school) to a target much easier to attack--the tarmac at an Air Force base with the world's best known 747 sitting on it?
