A man arrested in Thailand is being held in connection with the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, law enforcement officials said today. Federal officials familiar with the case, who spoke with the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the man was being held in Bangkok on unrelated sex charges.
A source close to the case identified the suspect as one-time resident of Conyers, Ga., and said he was a school teacher.
The source said that authorities had been focusing on him for some time and that Patsy Ramsey had been made aware prior to her death on June 24 that his arrest was being pursued.
The girl was found beaten and strangled in the basement of the familys home in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 26, 1996.
Law enforcement officials from Boulder were flying to Bangkok to present Thai authorities with documents in the slaying of the 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant, officials in Washington said. They asked to remain anonymous pending an announcement in Colorado.
The girls parents, Patsy and John Ramsey, had been under an "umbrella of suspicion" in JonBenets death. The Ramseys said an intruder killed their daughter. A grand jury investigation in Boulder ended with no indictments, and no arrests had been made in the case.
Patsy Ramsey died in July.
In 2003, U.S. District Judge Julie Carnes in Atlanta concluded that the evidence she reviewed suggested an intruder killed JonBenet. That opinion came with the judges decision to dismiss a libel and slander lawsuit against the Ramseys by a freelance journalist, who the Ramseys had named as a suspect in their daughters murder. The Boulder district attorney at the time said she agreed with Carnes declaration.

There is no way you can be certain of anything. You have an opinion which in my opinion is based upon gossip and lies.
I know what you mean... It is so easy for us to speculate here behind our computer screen.. then blame people .. and get worked up about it. Forgetting about those who are REALLY involved...
Then something like this happens.. that's out of our realm of thinking ...
'KUSA-TV of Denver, citing no sources, reported that the suspect has already confessed to certain elements of the crime.' Um...I think maybe you should consider another possibility?
>>>>ploy by John Carr to get out of that godforesaken Thailand prison to an American prison
Three words:
Adam Walsh Act
We'll see what the story is on this suspect.
This was a wealthy family who no doubt had a family lawyer on retainer for years. Anyone who has worked with lawyers (like them) was savy enough to know that you NEVER put yourself in the presence of police officers without a lawyer, no matter how innocent you are. I'm a judge and I think the Ramsey's did exactly the right thing "because" they were innocent. That said; yes, there were things that would make one question them, but not enough to convict them they way they were in the press.
I didn't know that Patsy died. Does anyone know from what?
Ovarian cancer.
Breast cancer, I believe.
Cancer.
To what end was the ransom note?
Kidnappers do just that....they kidnap.
Nothing in this case ever pointed to anyone outside that home.
Huh. I was Googling the guy, and JC Carr school popped up a few times. I'm not sure why.
One of the disgusting pedophile / bizarre sex seeking farang ... he definitely fits a certain profile. Profiling is a good thing indeed.
I agree completely with your assessment of the murder of the little girl.
Ovarian Cancer. She recovered once from it, I think in 1999.
Peach, I had been leaning that way for a long long time. Sadly, statistics confirm that close relatives are most often involved. Couple that with the beauty contest angle, and it seemed to fit together.
If the Ramsey's were not involved, they have paid a heavy price in addition to the sorrow of losing a child. If that was the case, I am very sorry for them.
One of my problems with these beauty contests for little girls, is that they seem to fix a psudo adult sexuality to young grils. I have never understood what benefit could come from that.
Did some guy see her in that environment and become infatuated? Who knows.
I'd never enter a young child in those contests.
