this weeks "navy times" came out. it had the usual articles in it. one very touching one about the last carrier operations of the f-14s. then.....
Happy birthday to you!
SONNY: Ah, say what do you think of the nerve of those Japs those slanty eyed bastards, huh. Dropping bombs in out back yard and on Pops birthday ya know.FREDO: Now they didnt know it was Pops birthday.
The Godfather, Part II.
thanks. it's great to know i have found the keepers of the blog world! i think people here take themselves a bit to seriously :-) maybe it's time to shake things up?
i know it's really nice when everyone agrees, but it's also boring!!
for those of you who thought this a vanity post, rather than a news post, i challenge your thinking. our military is engaged in war. it is very apt to go on for a long time. the kind of military we need and want is something all of us should consider. we pay the bill. we win or lose with them.
Not my fault you watch obsure movies and not The Good The Bad and The Ugly over and over like I do.
Oh, arrogant one, you are going to pay for that little comment. If you have learned nothing around here, you should still have realized that there is a vast wealth of knowledge and experience resident in this forum that far surpasses your own pitiful existence.
A little respect will carry you far in these parts, Junior. You have to show it if you expect to also receive it.
A side note - when I was in, no one ever tried to force me to smoke or drink. In boot camp, the CC's would call smoke and coke breaks. Everybody went in the big lounge and had a smoke and/or a coke. Those who did not smoke were not forced to do so. So, I never understood why some people thinks the military forces people to smoke.
As far as all lower-case being a "recognized style," it isn't on FR. Nor was it in the old BBS days. Nor was it way back when upper-case was the only TTY option. And pardon my skepticism, but I don't think you built the Internet that I'm using. The other way around, perhaps.
Welcome to FR.
We all know Al Gore gave birth to the internet.
Ps: Although I didnt like your title I think your point is good. If a person is old enough to give his life he should also be able to smoke or drink when appropriate.
some might understand the style. hi archie :>}
didn't ask for it. don't expect it. what i am surprised to find, is the monumental amount of arrogance and self righteousness on this site.
it does explain why i don't recognize most of you. bloggers tend to run into each other from site to site. seems many of you are just hanging out here stroking each other.
but hey....thanks for the advice, oh wise one!
Hasnt hurt enlistment yet...they removed porno mags from stores..and there was a hue and cry...yet nothing changed
They made cadences more PC..that didnt change anything other than that
You cant hit lesser ranked soldiers any more..the discipline of the soldier didnt change
You cant cuss at a soldier...once again same results
THey removed cigs from rations..yet the military remained strong
They increased PT and weight standards..the military became physically more capable...basic training has become longer..
I am saying our military has become more capable over the years with so many changes, we do more with less men because of improved standards.
It probably looks better on your amber hercules monitor.
besides my own service, my father is retired and 5 other members of my family still serve. they include my husband and both my sons.
i would not be so angry at what is happening to MY military, if i did not have such an immediate interest in it.
Yup. It lends an adolescently submissive 'look' to your post...
~GCR~
Dont like it? Leave.
If you want to make your first post a vanity that is hard to read and comprehend...and dont expect to be hazed...then your whining about our candy assed military is nothing but fluff..and perhaps its people like you who couldnt take the crap the military dished out is the reason why its changed so dramatically.
ping. amaziningly enough only about 4 freepers on this entire thread have responded to what the poster actually wrote and some of those are in favor of smoking and drinknig restrictioins in the armed forces
What are you supposed to do then, fight? Oh, I know, screw coed sailors, get'em pregnant, and ship'em home.
no, we do more with less because we have become more dependent on tech. that dependency has had positive as well as negative results.
the changes in training standards have hurt the discipline of the force. if they can't take being yelled at, they can't take being shot at.
the purpose of early training is to break people. they either break and leave, or they break and become military. either way, the place for breaking is state side, not in battle.
Shouldn't this be in Breaking?
heh
You been reading a lot of ee cummings lately?
