Tour de France champion Floyd Landis' backup urine sample confirmed high levels of testosterone, cycling's governing body said Saturday, raising the prospect that he could lose his title.
Following the results of the "B" sample, Landis was expected to be fired by his Swiss team, Phonak, which had suspended him pending the results. He also faces a two-year ban from USA Cycling, which is responsible for sanctions against the American rider.
"The analysis of the sample B of Floyd Landis's urine has confirmed the result of an adverse analytical finding notified by the Anti-doping laboratory of Paris on 26th July, following the analysis of the sample A," the International Cycling Union said, referring to the Chatenay-Malabry lab outside Paris.
The confirmed test sets off what could now be months of appeals and arguments by Landis, who repeatedly has claimed his innocence and vowed to fight the allegations.
If held up, Landis would become the first winner of cycling's premier race to lose his Tour title over doping allegations.

Very sad for men, when it's a crime to have too much testosterone.
The only real hope left for Landis being innocent is the lab turning out to be crooked. If they had backup samples that the lab hasn't touched yet, they could test them somewhere else and see what they find.
Right now though, it looks like he's guilty. I'm not going to be caught in the trap of trying to come up with more and more ridiculous excuses as the evidence piles up.
RichardW,
Since we all know how the US likes underdogs or losers (Michael Jackson where are you?) you might want to keep those Wheaties boxes since they may be worth even more if he is deprived of Cooperstown honors. It is another sad, sad case. McGuire was my absolute fav at one time. No longer, since he doesn't have a desire to tell the truth or keep his word. Sad.
Pretty much true.
"That would make sense, but the stuff he tested positive for doesn't produce immediate results.
Who can confirm this?? Plus, do we know how many times during the race the riders were tested?"

Top cyclists are tested throughout the tour. Testosterone and epitestosterone require long term use to to build endurance and muscle. Landis was tested throughout previousl stages, and tested negative for banned substances.
The UCI is not to be trusted in this case, it appears that 8 is one time too many for an American to win the largely european race.

You are precisely correct. The amateurish handling of this whole affair by UCI, complete with half-baked theories and vile anonymous leaks, stinks to high heaven. They are seeking to taint his victory on the street so that people will always discuss doping when the name "Floyd Landis" is raised in discussion. If anyone should be investigated, it is the UCI mudslingers.

There is no test for synthetic testosterone, the UCI is making this up as they go along.
Literature supports exogenous testo will in fact alter C-13/C-12. However, it hasn't been shown that synthetic testo exclusively alters the C-13/C-12 ratio. Ingesting foods, medicine, etc., could also change the ratio. They don't test the actual testosterone, it's the metabolic byproducts that get tested, which means the C-13 can come from other organic sources. There is no absolute proof that synthetic testo is the agent that caused Floyd's C-13/C-12 to shift.
Go back and look at some older threads that go into detail of the isotope test which is at the center of all of this.
Wait, that would make sense.....
LMBO!
If he had come in second he wouldn't have made up as much time on the leaders, and he wouldn't have been able to win the tour, but would have come in several places back
not true
What?
Destroy an American. Job #1 for frogs. TDF doesn't have a TV rating.
On the contrary John Kerry, who served in Vietnam, will side with the French.
Excellent point. I'm sure Landis and his bevy of attorneys are looking at the testing procedures and other issues (including, as they've already stated, the leaks from the UCI). Sure, I'd luv to have a conspiracy proven in this case, but I'm highly skeptical that he's innocent.
