With dreams of establishing his own Bush-like Presidential dynasty, Rhode Island Congressman Kenneth Gurwitch tried everything to get his 10-yearold son interested in politics.
"I took Matt to Congress with me," he said. "I watched the national news with him every night, pointing out the people with whom I worked. I even got Matt a personal tour of the White House."
But nothing Gurwitch did succeeded in interesting his son in his father's line of work. "Quite honestly, the only thing that excites Matt is watching his favorite TV show, SpongeBob SquarePants.
In desperation, Gurwitch decided to try something more radical to win his son over. First, he made certain that Matt would turn on the TV at a specified date and time. Gurwitch had left the TV on C-Span, which shows live sessions of all U.S. House of Representatives meetings.
What Matt saw amazed him. It was one of those dull Congress meetings his dad was always trying to get him to watch, but sitting among the other Congressman was none other than his father -- dressed as SpongeBob SquarePants!
"It was the coolest thing ever! I never thought my dad would do something that goofy for me!" Matt enthused. "It was just what Congress needed! I love politics now!"
Unfortunately, Gurwitch's stunt did not enjoy equal success among Congressional leaders. He was censured for making a mockery out of the political process and relieved of his position on the Congressional Ethics Committee.
Sheesh! I didn't get Rush until I was FORTY-nine!
You're right!
One of my favorite authors writes, "Governed by God, man is self-governed."
We used to play a good game with our kids ~ "Who's in Charge?" so they'd have a respect for authority and the pecking order in general.
Wherever we went ~ church, school, shopping, friends' homes ~ we'd establish who's in charge, which ultimately always brought it home to the fact that God is in charge, and our freedom is only in proportion to their understanding of that fact.
Excellent, and so true!
LOL!
He sure helped us raise our kids.

Yeah, I didn't figure out who Rush Limbaugh was until about 2 years ago! Of course, I'm only 17, but still... ;)
Rush is the one who made me realize I'm not the Liberal I thought I was! A woman like me called and asked some questions and she learned at that moment, as I did, that she truly was NOT a Democrat!
Congrats on your young epiphany!
Folks, this is a H O A X.
The two representatives from RI are Kennedy and Langevin.
Never, EVER, believe anything from Weekly World News unless it is indpendently corraborated by a reliable news source. (WWN is even less reliable than CBS or the NYT -- and THAT is saying something.)
