KENNEDY AUTHOR ON RELATIONS & COVERUP (JFK Jr. flew directly into path of an AA jetliner...)

MAYBE it's summer doldrums, maybe it's something in the water . . . whatever . . . each week brings talk of another couple curdling. Last week's whisper had Mr. & Mrs. Caroline Kennedy no longer as blissful as, say, Brad and non-wife Angelina. Per best-selling Kennedy author C. David Heymann: "The Schlossbergs always lived separate lives. Ed's not keen on charity functions. He's rarely at her ballets and municipal art things. As for her attending his events, it's debatable what this poet philosopher does, although he's in demand. He works with museum directors programming interactive installations.

"They're married 20 years. The separate ways even extend to parenting. Like for their son's little league football games, either Caroline showed or Ed did.

"Caroline hasn't accomplished what could have been as the only daughter of [last] century's best-known couple. She shuns limelight. Her brother protected her. So, she chose a husband who wouldn't grandstand or seek attention. And her choice didn't disappoint. The man's basically a cipher. John had nothing with him and, conversely, she hated his wife, Carolyn Bessette. Brother and sister were close but exclusive to them. Not as couples.

-snip-

Heymann's next Kennedy book, Simon & Schuster's "Trials and Tragedy," is out in 2007. Having gained access to details of John's death, exactly this month seven years ago, he says only: "There was a coverup. It was not according to FAA disclosures. After taking off with his wife and sister-in-law from Caldwell, the private New Jersey airfield, he flew directly over White Plains' Westchester airport heading straight into the flight path of an American jetliner. Something was drastically wrong with him. He couldn't be raised on his radio. Didn't even know its frequency. The control tower had to reach the American pilot to change course immediately."

Even with his name, law firms appeared to steer clear of adding him to legal staffs.

Do you really believe that is true? His name would be worth millions a year to any law firm without him ever stepping foot into a courtroom. Trust me on this one: He had PLENTY of offers. I am not a fan, but I believe George was what he wanted to do.

Occam's Razor.

A pilot with insufficient instrument time flew across water in sub-marginal visibility and approaching nightfall.

He lost his horizon and got into a spiral dive.

Inexperienced pilots are less likely to trust their instruments and more likely to trust their inner ear and the arse of their pants both of which tell lies when there is no visible horizon.

Clive, you don't really want my thoughts on this do you? ;)

I'm powering up my RACG (Random Aviation Conspiracy Generator).

You are correct. He was flying in conditions that were beyond his ability. Although it was marginal VFR (visual flight rules) over water and low light conditions it is very easy to loose your horizon.

I always flew instruments in conditions like that.

I agree.

I dislike the whole Kennedy thing, and being from Massachusetts, have more reason than nearly everyone else to be dismayed since I do have some say over their elections to offices in this state, (however insignificant my nay vote is)

I don't know JFK Jr personally, which means I don't know him. I agree, though, by all accounts, he was about the most normal one to come out at nearly any time.

I think he was just an inexperienced pilot who was trying to go too far, too fast, too quickly as a pilot, and had not developed the inner voice that experienced aviators and sailors get that notifies them they may be getting into something over their heads.

Picture from the column. Has there ever been a female in the Kennedy family that did not inherit the skelator face as soon as they hit age 40?

I was working in the flight training industry in Florida during the time JFK Jr. was receiving his training. The reports I received regarding his training and his performance on the instrument rating practical test were less than impressive.

Quite likely. Too bad that an autopsy wasn't permitted, however, to rule out foul play.

...especially since his political aspirations would give rise to "motive."

>Let's not forget the Montauck Particle Beam...

Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you.

We haven't had the dreaded Montauck Particle Beam on FR for years.

How dare we forget!!!!!! :~)

A PT Boat, an airplane, or an automobile, being operated by a Kennedy, will ultimately end up at the bottom of a body of water, unless it first hits a police barricade or rolls over in a ditch.

Also, think about the route. Off Teterboro, up to 3000 to stay under the TCA, over HPN, further east over Connecticut, it's all a beautiful carpet of light.

It's easier than daytime VFR, the horizon is clearly delineated. Have flown it many times. It's beautiful.

Continue east, then take about a 30 degree right to get to the Vineyard, and all of a sudden, all the ground lights are absolutely gone! If there a few boats in the bay, the sound or Plum Gut, they can easily give you a false horizon.

Stall-Spin (on land, Crash-Burn)

When flying from a brightly lit area out over water, desert, heavily forested area, they new kids don't know that they need to be on instruments for at least 5 minutes before they lose the 'VFR" horizon, get the scan going good, radios pre-tuned, maps pre-folded, have yourself talked through the approach, what you are going to do if you miss the approach for some reason. etc.

He was just in too deep, too soon. Must have been a horrible last 120 seconds.
