KENNEDY AUTHOR ON RELATIONS & COVERUP (JFK Jr. flew directly into path of an AA jetliner...)

MAYBE it's summer doldrums, maybe it's something in the water . . . whatever . . . each week brings talk of another couple curdling. Last week's whisper had Mr. & Mrs. Caroline Kennedy no longer as blissful as, say, Brad and non-wife Angelina. Per best-selling Kennedy author C. David Heymann: "The Schlossbergs always lived separate lives. Ed's not keen on charity functions. He's rarely at her ballets and municipal art things. As for her attending his events, it's debatable what this poet philosopher does, although he's in demand. He works with museum directors programming interactive installations.

"They're married 20 years. The separate ways even extend to parenting. Like for their son's little league football games, either Caroline showed or Ed did.

"Caroline hasn't accomplished what could have been as the only daughter of [last] century's best-known couple. She shuns limelight. Her brother protected her. So, she chose a husband who wouldn't grandstand or seek attention. And her choice didn't disappoint. The man's basically a cipher. John had nothing with him and, conversely, she hated his wife, Carolyn Bessette. Brother and sister were close but exclusive to them. Not as couples.

-snip-

Heymann's next Kennedy book, Simon & Schuster's "Trials and Tragedy," is out in 2007. Having gained access to details of John's death, exactly this month seven years ago, he says only: "There was a coverup. It was not according to FAA disclosures. After taking off with his wife and sister-in-law from Caldwell, the private New Jersey airfield, he flew directly over White Plains' Westchester airport heading straight into the flight path of an American jetliner. Something was drastically wrong with him. He couldn't be raised on his radio. Didn't even know its frequency. The control tower had to reach the American pilot to change course immediately."

John Jr..... if he wanted to crash in the drink that's his business, but he shouldn't have taken his wife and sister-in-law with him!

So the bottom line is, JFK Jr. was about as good a pilot as his father was a PT boat skipper, and his uncle Teddy is a driver?

Last year I read a book written by a friend of JFK Jr., who speculated that he did consider making the race for the NY Senate seat in 2000, but his marital problems at the time (Carolyn having difficulty adjusting to the limelight) gave him second thought. John Jr. was annoyed with Hillary for not giving him advance notice that she was running, though.

The author suggested that JFK Jr. was thinking about running for the Senate from New Jersey in '02 or '04. Jackie O had owned a cottage on the Jersey shore that John Jr. inherited, and could have claimed as a residence.

I detest the hypocrite crass Caroline....she wrote a book espousing the greatness of Public education and then when Imus asked her if her KIDS went to public school, she almost fainted...because of COURSE they Don't!! And she was totally classless to Laura Bush.

"Caroline hasn't accomplished what could have been as the only daughter of [last] century's best-known couple.

And in keeping with the level of erudition of the Kennedy clan, she also happens to be as dense as a blackhole.

And her equally mentally challenged brother had to take the NY State Bar Exam at least three times.

In fairness to Kennedy, 2/3 of the people who take the NY bar fail it. It is graded on a curve, and obviously the competition is harsh because everyone taking the exam has graduated from law school. Kennedy was a drug addict, not an idiot (assuming the two are mutually exclusive).

Perhaps, but some were dismayed when he passed the bar and said they must have taken all his scores and added them together in order for him to pass. Even with his name, law firms appeared to steer clear of adding him to legal staffs.

JKK Jr. tried to approach aviation in a responsible manner, at least in the beginning. He enrolled in Flight Safety's comprehensive course, and by all reports was an excellent student.

He simply lacked the experience to go flying around in very, very marginal VFR weather (severe haze), compounded by night flying (night VFR is almost an oxymoron).

That said, I always thought he was the best of the Kennedy litter. I spoke to people who spent considerable time with him at Oshkosh, and they said he was a very nice and unassuming man. He slept underneath the wing of his aircraft, and genuinely loved aviation. He took time with everyone who approached him, and was respectful to all.

Moreover, Jackie raised him to be much, much different than the rest of the Kennedy wild children who turned out to be repugnant adults. John Jr. was, by almost all accounts, a very decent human being.
