The Hobbit Hole XXX - Then world behind and home ahead...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/28/2006 10:14:11 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Then world behind and home ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Tonight I managed to convince my mother for a good five minutes that I'd arranged with the organist to play the Star Wars "Imperial March" when I walked down the aisle.

That was the high point of my week. As long as we start the week on Monday.

Also, who added the "ARETHEYPREGGERSYET" keyword and to whom does it apply?

Heh...as I recall, my friend who got married a few years back fully intended to use some Star Wars music for the march. This in an otherwise VERY old-fashioned kinda wedding.

I think her mom kinda ixnayed that. ;-) They just had some nice classical pieces instead.

Star Wars has a lot of really nice, classical pieces.

It couldn't have gotten any better than "Concerning Hobbbits" for us. It's not only a beautiful piece, it's us. :~)

I don't think anything else would have been as appropriate!

Heh heh! A discussion!

The jedis did try several times to get away from him and he just kept approaching them. Followed them all over the pool. I was watching it all very carefully and when I told him to basically back off, he should of said "Oh, ok!" and that woulda been the end of it.

Instead, he got argumentative and hacked me off.

And to get a mental picture, he was bigger than Steve.

Nope :~) You've never seen the wedding tape have you? We can play it sometime! (At least it's not a whole box of slides from all our vacations :~)

Well...if he was bothering them instead of just trying to be nice, I guess that's different. The first post sounded like he wasn't doing much and you more or less went up and called him a pervert, without a lot of provocation. And I could just imagine how my brother (or any other decent teenage kid) would be hurt by that.

Sorry if I went overboard.

Sure! I'd love to see it.

And I rather like vacation slides...provided they aren't blurry pictures of Grandma's second cousin twice removed and accompanied by broken, uninterpretable dialog...

"Remember that time with the chair?"

"Oh, yeah! That was a hoot! That guy..."

"Yeah! The one with the..."

"The green hat!"

*those two people bust out laughing, the rest stare blankly at the blurry slide, desperately hoping there aren't another thirty similar ones coming up*

Heh.. or endless pictures of the same people propped up in front of some backdrop "Here we are at the Eiffle Tower." "Here we are in front of Mount Rushmore"

I still don't get his obsession with my front steps. *rolls eyes*

Good night! Heading that way in a sec myself. Just finishing some tea.

Nice to have cool sleeping weather again!

That, of course, reminds me of a Monty Python sketch...

Dear Old Lady: This is Uncle Ted in front of the house. (she hand over the photo and the young lady tears it up) This is Uncle Ted at the back of the house. (she hand over the photo and the young lady tears it up) And this is Uncle Ted at the side of the house. (she hand over the photo and the young lady tears it up) This is Uncle Ted back in front of the house, but you can see the side of the house. (she hand over the photo and the young lady tears it up) And this is Uncle Ted even nearer the side of the house, but you can still see the front. (she hand over the photo and the young lady tears it up) This is the back of the house, with Uncle Ted coming round the side to the front. (she hand over the photo and the young lady tears it up) And the is the Spanish Inquisition hiding behind the coal shed.

Young Lady: Oh! I didn't expect a Spanish Inquisition.

[Jarring chord. The door flies open and Ximinez, Biggles and Fang enter.]

Ximinez: Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Wife played the Star Wars Theme for a recessional at a wedding a couple of summers ago...

Next you should tell her that when the grandparents come in, you've asked the organist to play "Send in the Clowns."

I was at a wedding where they did.

Heh, at one point during the conversation she hesitantly said something like "don't you think that would be better as a recessional?"

I still am amused that she fell for it.

There's a commercial here that has a lady saying something similar...I think she and her husband visit Mt. Rushmore, the grand canyon, go on a cruise. The lady is complaining about it terribly...what a wretched time she had. This year she's being smart! She's going to a casino!

Heh!

Dogs fighting in the front yard woke me up just a bit ago...

Ah that's ok!

I wasn't too happy with the guy in the whole first place because I'd gone from a sitting position (near the ac) watching him go up to my kids, then a standing position, then I had to actually go up to the side of the pool. The boys never said a word to him, just kept swimming off. I was irritated that the guy didn't take the hint!

I find it really amazing that parents have no problems dropping their kids off at this place! As far as I can see, there is no supervision, only a teenage lifeguard on duty. No one monitors their coming or going (unless they're signed up for this summer program, and even then it's very loosely monitored.)

Yesterday Matthew made friends with a little boy a year older than him. They didn't talk too much, but had a good time squirting each other with squirt guns! Joshua makes a new friend every time we go, because most of the kids are his age in the summer program). The kid Matthew made friends with just came in to swim alone.

So there's fun to be had at the place, but I'd never dream of just dropping them off!

I think the Imperial Theme would be perfect as a recessional; you know, with the old 'take over the world' plans, and all. ;o)

When David walked across the stage at Carnegie Mellon to get his BS, some friends played a little snippet of a video game theme song over the PA system. We didn't realize they were going to do it, and we just howled laughing.
