Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Then world behind and home ahead
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I was that guy, once. I had a wish to be a big brother to a little brother, and was not interested in the girl-chasing drinky-smokey-cussy world of my peers.
I did think it polite to make myself known to parents, and if youngsters were disinclined to my company, I didn't push.
"Good on yer" being alert to potential hazards, though. Not all of 'em are nice guy like me :)

I have to side with 2J on this one... better safe than sorry.

I still say the way it was stated was kinda harsh unless there was more to the story. Nothing wrong with being wary, but kids should also know that not *everyone* is out to get them.
Like I said, a big part of it is 'cause I have brothers about that age, and I'd be appalled if someone said that to 'em. Maybe that's me being oversensitive.

Trying to decide if I want to attempt Cisco accompanied biking tonight or not...
Since it's cloudy, I'm guessing there wouldn't be all that many folks on the more rural part of the trail if I just went and tried it. But I dunno how he'd do right off.

Well, long as we're choosing up sides, I'm four square with 2jedismom. I'll trust her instincts where her children are concerned.
To: osagebowman
I'm not siding against her. I just think it could have been more nicely stated, that's all.
To: RosieCotton
You'll never know till you try, I'd just go work it out!

I have no intention of "choosing sides." As a parent of a 17-year-old, I wouldn't appreciate someone saying that to him.
It's certainly 2J's call. And she was there, we weren't.
But I'm also the parent of a 6-year-old. I would have viewed it differently.
That's all I'm sayin'.

My sentiments exactly.
We're off to see who wins the battle at Helm's Deep.

Well...we didn't really go for long, but he did mostly OK! I think that doohickey would work a bit better than the leash, though. For one, he kept wanting to get juuuuust a bit ahead of the bike, which made me nervous...if there had been even the slightest left hand veer to the path, we'd have gone down if he was doin' that. And I didn't get much of a workout just 'cause I of course have to keep to his running pace.
Still, I think if I go out with him a few times a week, it'd do him good! And he seemed to enjoy it - had his tail at full mast the whole time. ;-)
He's tired now, if you can believe that.

Sounds like Orc mischief to me!

It's good for him, I know... you can work on getting him to pace further back, but one thing I remember now is teaching Logan "Left". It's easy to teach and you don't have to teach "Right" just "Left".
Just say it, then turn a second later, "Left", turn... "Left" turn. I bet if you did that around in a square, by the fourth turn he'd anticipate the turn and get out of the way.
He can take as much run as you can take him with for. Good for him. Did you keep him at a trot, or a canter?

Heh...what are the names of the dog paces? ;-) Part of the way we went so he was, I guess, trotting. But between roads and when there weren't other people around, we went a bit faster, so he was kinda loping along.
To: RosieCotton
They have the same gaits as horses! Lope is western, Canter is English... Gallop is full bore :~)

OK, so I guess we cantered a good bit of the way. ;-) It was smoother when he did that, so when I could, I sped up just enough that he was doing that.
