I'm off for a bit. I'm going to watch my sister's dance recital, then take a little drive...

I'll pop back on sometime after midnight. Behave yourselves! Hoodie will be in later this evening.

Hope I didn't miss anyone in the ping!

I've met one nice guy on line and a lot of men who were married but wanted a little "side action". Are there any decent, intelligent, single men out there who are in their 40's and 50's?

OK, here's a good laugh for you all....

1. Have you been on a date with someone you met on the Internet?

Yes. We lived together for a few months.

2. Did the date go well? Did a relationship result?

He was kinda fat so it was an OK first meeting with me hiding my disappointment. A relationship was started after several more visits.

3. Did you meet them on a dating site or elsewhere?

Yes....Country Singles.com. He stated he was a.....(now don't laugh) Helicopter Pilot and Photographer from Iowa.

4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know.

Yes. We ended up on Judge Judy when I took him to Small Claims Court to get back $6,000 he lied me out of. I don't do internet dating anymore........

1. Have you been on a date with someone you met on the Internet? YES!

2. Did the date go well? Did a relationship result? YES! Super Duper Happy Marriage.

3. Did you meet them on a dating site or elsewhere? It was in a Yahoo Chat Room. Was it totally by accident or chance? Totally by accident.

4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know. Yes, but most of you have heard my story already.

5. Any funny or interesting “meeting the parents” stories? My husband and I met each other's parents the same day we met each other!

6. Has meeting the parents ever caused a breakup? Nope.

7. And, finally, have you ever set up a “backup” scenario to get out of a potentially bad date? Yup. If you are a chick, never meet the guy alone. Do it in a group. Have a couple friends come with you and ask your date to invite a couple of his friends. If you meet him on your own, have a cell phone handy. Make sure your family and friends know where you will be in case there's trouble. Make sure your first date is in a very public place. Make sure you are seen by people the entire time, including walking to and from your car.

To answer your questions, I've generally not had good results with people I've met on the internet, but neither have I had good results anywhere else.

I met one woman in a Christian singles chat room on AOL. That relationship had its exciting moments, and I did meet her in person. I can't honestly say that I regret the whole thing, but it wasn't a healthy relationship. Ultimately, I broke it off because she was jerking me around too much emotionally.

Otherwise, I've tried meeting women through a nationwide personals site. I sent about 200 e-mails. Five to ten of them were false ads left by someone trying to get me to go to some other site. I realized that it was some kind of scam and never looked at the site. Eventually, I came to recognize the "women" running those ads and didn't bother responding to them. About five women e-mailed with me for periods of two weeks to maybe two months. They never had a romantic interest, and no lasting friendship ever resulted. One or two women wrote back to me criticizing the preferences that I listed on my profile. I ended up with three first dates from those 200 but no second dates. Of those three, I was interested in one, but she never had any further interest in me. One lady had the courtesy to send me an e-mail thanking me for my interest and telling me that she couldn't return my interest. The other 180 or so never gave me the courtesy of a reply of any kind.

I don't think that the internet is any better or worse way to meet people than other venues. Under other conditions, maybe something could have worked. I realize that I'm an odd fit regardless, so I try not to expect too much. Ultimately, I think anything that brings people together is a positive thing.

Bill

1. Have you been on a date with someone you met on the Internet? NOPE, but I did meet my wife on a planned blind date...
2. Did the date go well? Did a relationship result? Three kids later, I would have to say something clicked.
3. Did you meet them on a dating site or elsewhere? Was it totally by accident or chance? Old man at work used his daughter to set us up.
4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know. Scarry, my Junior prom, total destruction... I don't want to relive telling the details... the sad thing was it was mostly my fault too.
5. Any funny or interesting “meeting the parents” stories? Ohh, the parents... wife has got most of you beat, dad killed himself, it gets worse, but is private.
6. Has meeting the parents ever caused a breakup? Nope... they don't matter with the right woman...
7. And, finally, have you ever set up a “backup” scenario to get out of a potentially bad date? Must admit, that must be a woman thing, lets just say if my car broke down, I have a long walk, cause nobody is gonna pick up this big lug unless they know me. I can take care of myself...

Anyhoo, got a sister that is as God fearing as can be, never married, mid 30's. Any good Alabama men out there??? She is a professional and makes/takes care of herself? (and pretty). But you had better know your Bible and know it well, cause she can smell an faker a mile away.

see #1! match.com

4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know.

not really anything interesting, only that I've learned that Internet dating isn't just for freaks anymore :-) There are actually normal people out there (yes, including my Dad) who do it, and it seems to work for a lot of us!

5. Any funny or interesting “meeting the parents” stories?

n/a

6. Has meeting the parents ever caused a breakup?

n/a

7. And, finally, have you ever set up a “backup” scenario to get out of a potentially bad date?

YES, but never used it. I guess I've been lucky (knock on wood!)

Well this is not happening to me but my buddy that I've been hanging with since grade school, almost 30 years, met a girl online from Canada. He will be 41 next month and she is 25. They chatted online and he brought her down here to live. The things that concerns me is that he brought her to live with him and his mother without at least him going ng up to meet her a few time to see if she would work out. In short, he is the type where "he leaps before he looks."

To make the story more weird, she lacks job skills, can't hold down a job. She did get Hepatitis C from her former boyfriend who did drugs, she was treated for it in time and there is a strong chance for a cure (75%) but she has to take a last test to make sure she is OK. She told me this but not my buddy. His mom is on kidney dialysis

One thing that concens me is that I think he is tossing his life away, he does have money problems from time to time, sells things at flea markets and delivers newspapers. Although she helps him in that, she has no job to bring money in and my friend refuses to work at a place with a boss above him, wants to work for himself. I know I have money problems myself, but at least I have a steady, guaranteed income at a famous company and get up at normal hours, He goes to bed at 5 or 6 PM and gets up at 2 AM for the newspapers, it seems like he lacks a good life and we don't get together as much.

I know with free will and all, it is up to him to "have a come to religion" epiphany in life and it is not my role to dictate his life, it just hurts me to see im go down this route. I figure I would tlel the story here for the reaction as well as starting on topic for once.

OK, because I couldn't get to your questions last night...

1. Have you been on a date with someone you met on the Internet?

Nope. I was hoping to have something set up next month though (and really looking forward to it), but because I've been hit with two large bills and tuition, I'm literally going nowhere...

2. Did the date go well? Did a relationship result?

Not Applicable--for the record, never been on a date.

3. Did you meet them on a dating site or elsewhere? Was it totally by accident or chance?

Met her here. Don't really know how it happened--it just did...8^)

4. Do you have a funny, gross, scary, or otherwise entertaining internet dating story to share? Either one that happened to you, or someone you know.

Nope.

5. Any funny or interesting “meeting the parents” stories?

Nope.

6. Has meeting the parents ever caused a breakup?

Not applicable...

7. And, finally, have you ever set up a “backup” scenario to get out of a potentially bad date?

Haven't given it much thought--as I've never really had a reason to think about it. But I've weaseled my way out of things (in one case, a cousin's wedding) by legit reason (working and can't get off)
