WASHINGTON, May 31 — After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.

The lament is often heard that we are judged by our past; "You'll never live it down", is a common line. Many have paid homage to that notion in seeking some excuse for themselves.
Despite all, though tis fair common theme, still the thought seems an infrequent guest of our consciousness that our past may also be judged by our future; that we may, in a moment of indescretion, destroy a lifetime of virtues.
And who can tell which may be worse: to never rise above the errors of one's past; or to have ascended to great heights and then, by some passing stupidity, brought it all down in heaping ruins?
But tomorrow will tell, for tomorrow will see the ruined man rise or remain fallen. All hope is bound up in tomorrow.

Good morning Hi Heels. It looks like we're thinking the same thing and saying it differently . . . I wouldn't take potshots at him, or anyone, based on a single incident.
I'm off to pick up our latest doggie rescue. We were at the animal shelter yesterday and found a traumatized chihuahua in the medical section. It was scared and aggressive and bit the animal officer, so he was going to euthanize it without any adoption time, so we pulled her. She had to be spade, and we are picking her up this AM. Pure white with big black eyes. And little white teeth I noticed... about 5.5 pounds of sheer terror against that 400 lb animal officer. HAHAaha... and he looked SCARED!
A stupid question deserves an appropriate answer....
I was in Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina for my Labrador retriever and was in line to check out.
A woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
On impulse, I told her that no, I was starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry & that the food is nutritionally complete
so I was going to try it again.
I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now enthralled with my story.
Horrified, she asked if I'd been poisoned and was that why I was in the hospital.
I said no.....I'd been sitting in the street licking my balls and a car hit me.
