WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

New York officials were given a one-page tally that explained, in part, how the region's risk-based standing was calculated.
The document said the region had no "national monuments or icons."

90% of the population in both cities sees the administration as a bigger threat than terrorists so they should feel safer now. Right?

True, but the terrorists obsession revolves around NY. It remains target number one - and not just for a building this time. The whole Island is a target.

As Mayor Bloomberg says, "Nobody ever arrested a terrorist with a map of a cornfield in his pocket."

New York is a target. It makes sense to spend the money where the target is. Homeland Security money is turning into just one more big barrel of pork.

When they cut funding to Baltimore, the mayor went on TV and called the Commander in Chief a terrorst.

Hillary Clinton will be out there for her evening sound bites accusing this administration of partisan efforts to undercut New Yorkers from their security?

To: Buck Ninety-Nine
NYC has received the lion's share of Homeland Security funds for the past five years. What about the rest of the nation? Terrorists don't only go after the marquee targets, but also look for the weak link (i.e., Beslan). Not surprisingly, Peter King is jumping at another opportunity to bash the CinC during wartime.

But New Yorkers have made it clear that they "understand" why terrorists don't like us. If that is the case then they should not turn their Island into an armed fortress. Right?

Adminstration to New York: "Drop Dead"Hmmm, I believe it was actually New York, a la Hevesi, just told Bush to drop dead, that Schumer would shoot him between the eyes.

I think the New York papers have gone a bit overboard on this one today.
It's not just The stupid Slimes, even the normally conservative New York Post had to have a go too.
I think I detect more than a whiff of typical New York arrogance here.

Just look at the the Post's front page headlines today :

"Feds slash our funds to boost hicks in sticks"

http://www.nypost.com/

Now how do you like that?
That's arrogance and condescension for you right there.
The fact that I live here doesn't mean I am going to condone such hysteria.

Omaha is hardly a corn field.

The people who oppose this generally live in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, California and maybe Texas. The states with the most to lose money-wise. While the people in Wyoming and Montana among many, many other state support equal dollars for states. No one is going to change anyones' mind.

On 1010wins this morning, I heard them report that one of the reasons for cutting the monies is from information showing the money was being used for pork barrel projects. I just checked the site and I see that comment didn't make it into the article. So I can't link what I heard them report.
