WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

Er, don't they already have security and soldiers and stuff?
Not all bases are fortresses. The world doesn't revolve around NYC. Besides, it's filled with libs. They would rather cozy with terrorists anyway. You know, get to know them and all that tripe.
I don't have time to do the research now, but IIRC various studies have demonstrated the NYC gets a lot less from Washington per capita than a lot of other places. Sure, we can be arrogant, but when was the last time your heard a kid say "When I grow up I want to go to Tulsa and become a famous actor." :-)
8 million divided by 300 million approximately 3% What about the other 97% of the country? Oh, never mind, it's NYC, so that's all that counts. Let's all jump on the NYC bandwagon and forget about the rest of us who live in the sticks.
Chicago would just fill the void if NYC was gone. NYC can be replaced, people can't, even us hicks from the sticks.
Ask your State government to raise your taxes 20%.
That should help.
Actually, I haven't heard anybody say they wanted to go to New York City. Around here, if one wants to be a famous actor, it's LA or Vancouver ;o). Fact is, much of what made New York famous in the past is dying off. Everyone hates the United Nations. The financial center is decentralizing already. Anthing worth while on Broadway eventually makes it to the silver screen. Music is also produced in LA and Nashville, just to mention a couple of venues. Most of the people I know don't even care to visit NYC as a tourist, let alone move there.
I'm sorry but times are changing and New York City's love affair with itself while putting other areas down doesn't fly much anymore. Not that San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas or LA are much better, but vanity thy name is New York City. I'm sure New York has much to offer but ever since the bailout years ago, respect for New York and its incessant whining for more federal money gets old. The country responded generously after 9-11 and money poured into New York City and the thanks we get is to get called hicks.
The majority of military bases are also pretty secure.
Tell you what, you blow up the two biggest buildings in Indianapolis, and we'll see how much Midwesterners whine.
THAT'S IT, YOU'RE GONE!!!
The United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) is still at Offutt AFB, in Omaha, Nebraska.
I'm not disagreeing with you. I suppose the majority of the US is tired of funding NYC and it's whiny libs. If Indianapolis was blown up, there'd be a huge outcry from flyover country, similar to 9-11.
Kids wanting to become actors doesn't help the argument for money shoveled into NYC.
Enough already with Silver and Weiner and Cuomo and Schumer and Maloney and baloney ad mauseum. They're against money for anti terror suveillance so losing a few federal dollars shouldn't matter.
Gothamites should be able to come up with supplemental anti terror funding by taxing themselves...they like doing it to everyone else so why not?
LOL
GREAT ANSWER!!!!!
bump
YEAH!!!
Doomed you are, and doomed you will be.
Guess what, NYC has all the stinking money it NEEDS.
Just look at where most of the STATE WIDE TAXES go.
