Bonds: "I won't stop until I beat Oh"
San Francisco , CA - It's one of the benefits of being personal friends with a baseball legend - he gives you what he won't give others. Back when we both played for Serra High, Barry used to boast that, one day, he'd be the Home Run king. Just days after hitting number 714 to tie Babe Ruth's 2nd place number, I gave my old friend Barry a call and asked him how it felt.
"This ain't nothing," He said. "I'm not going to stop until I'm the best."
Does that mean 755 for Barry Bonds?
"No, [expletive] that. I'm going for Oh's record."
That's right. Barry's looking past 714, past 755, for the world record of 868 career home runs held by Japanese legend Sadaharu Oh of that country's oldest team, the Yomiuri Giants.
Driven to Win
Barry has always been driven. In high school, he used to compete over most things, whether it was home run totals, stolen bases, pieces of gum chewed or anything that could be counted. Once, he actually pulled out a ruler in the locker room in order to put to rest the question as to who held the most valuable record in the entire school.
And now that he's achieved what only two people in America have ever achieved, 714 home runs, he's not at all ready to rest on his laurels. Even though he was quoted in February of this year as saying, "I've never cared about records anyway," Bonds's statements among friends tell quite a different story.
"Hank Aaron? [expletive] that guy," He said. "I can outhit him, and besides, I'm not even worried about him. I'm not worried about the American record, they're going to 'star' me anyway. I'm going for the best in the world."
Oh's career home run record of 868 is 113 more than Hank Aaron's Major League Baseball home run record of 755 and has been held since he retired in 1980 at age 40, having amassed a Japanese baseball record of 2,786 hits, 2,170 RBIs, and a lifetime batting average of .301.
And Bonds is hot on his trail.
"My knee? Not a worry," he claims. "Pain isn't nothing but French for 'bread'. I'm going to take it all."
And knowing Barry, I don't doubt it.
I'd bet Bonds would dwarf both of them, but not in skill.
Brent looks like he needs a few removed.
"WTF TV" ? How appropriate!
It's the whole I looked like John Kerry before John Kerry looked like John Kerry thing he has going on.
The Jacket is a dead given away.
Doesn't look like it's in his prime. Aaron's best years were when the Braves were in Milwaukee, and that photo was taken after they had moved to Atlanta (evidenced by the "a" on his cap). I haven't read it yet, but Aaron has an autobiography called "I had a Hammer" that is supposed to be superb.
Or in class.
lol!
This is either a gag or that's the worst television station since Ted Baxter did the news for WJM. The "news" link doesn't work, there's only one story on each of the other tabs, and the guy who says he went to high school with Bonds doesn't have a byline on his story?
Barry needs to watch the movie "Mr 3000" (It was on AMC this last weekend.) Heck, Barry Bonds could have taken Bernie Mac'[s place in the movie.
I think the "WTF-TV", should be the first clue.
I'm having a hard time believing there's really a TV network whose callsign is the standard abreviation for What The F#$*, are we sure this isn't a piece of satire.
Make that, "Just say oh to steroids."
They won't sign a guy who broke Babe Ruth's record, since Ruth made the Yanks the legend that they are.
Incorrect.
When Aaron played for the Milwaukee Braves he averaged 33 home runs per season; after the team moved to Atlanta he averaged 37 home runs per season.
It was linked on Drudge, and appears to be legit. If Drudge got fooled its a pretty clever mock-up.
868 HRs? I'm buying all the Numico shares I can afford.
Decatur Cable is a division of Peacock Media whose industry-leading businesses include interactive services, cable systems, publishing, music, TV networks, fritters and filmed entertainment.
Ah -- I'm disappointed in Drudge -- of course the site is a fake. It claims to be a Las Vegas TV station -- I didn't think there were any TV stations west of the Texas/New Mexico line heading north to North Dakota/Montana that began with "W." And yes, WTF should have tipped him off as well.
What are fritters? Fake sites such as the one in this post?
Hey, who are those guys with Brent Musberger?
