Tom Hanks and other stars of "The Da Vinci Code" left London for the much-anticipated movie's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France, aboard a special Eurostar train.
The train, repainted with the face of the Mona Lisa, was hoping to enter the record books by making the longest international non-stop rail journey on the 1,421-kilometre (883-mile) route.
Dan Brown, who wrote the best-selling novel "The Da Vinci Code", joined the film version's director Ron Howard and actors Hanks, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Alfred Molina and Paul Bettany on the journey to the southern French coast.
The film was to open the 59th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night. The festival runs until May 28.
Religious critics claim that "The Da Vinci Code"'s theme -- that Jesus Christ had children with Mary Magdalene and their bloodline continues -- is blasphemous.

IMO this film is getting the GLITZ AD treatment ala "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" As I recall, there was a huge outcry over that book/film also on the basis of magic and dark forces. The more people hear "boycott" the faster they'll line up to read/view it!
And lest we forget...they're both still fiction!

Afraid I won't be watching it. It dishonors the Savior who died to give me the opportunity to spend eternity with God.
I would feel dirty paying money to undercut the life of my Savior.

Yes, and as we know, fiction (Uncle Tom's Cabin) has never (The Jungle) had any (Atlas Shrugged) meaningful impact (1984) on society.
The Duh Vinci Code hype is a great teaching moment for Christians. We should not ignore it. We should be blasting away at it with both barrels and instructing our family and friends who are curious about the lies with a large dose of the Truth.

To: Grendel9
Okay so maybe it is made up, but the author believes it's real... doesn't that stand for something?
To: ClancyJ
The History Chanel did a job on dan brown. They had a librarian that said the basic "documents" were fake that dan brown had used. There was a DNA test that proved that the supposed line of Jesus had all European DNS and no middle eastern DNA thus saying there was no possibility of being related to Mary Magdalen or Jesus!

I agree and the FReepeers keep posting threads on why this country and that religious leader wants it banned for heresy. It only makes people want to see the movie.

Why can't others see your point? Because even though the author readily says it is fiction out of one side of his mouth, he says that the societies and documents in the story are factual out of the other. The author is saying the most blasphemous parts of the story are true. And therein lies the problem, he is misinforming people about the truth.

I vote the same way you do. An I repeat to anyone overly excited that it's fiction, a story, he made it up. Why did he write it??? $40 million plus probably answers part of that question. Plan on seeing the movie (and I don't go see many) in part because I have been to some of the places were scenes were shot.
To: ClancyJ
I agree, I won't go either.

See previous post. The claim of "fiction" does not shield the author from the charge that he's spreading lies about Christianity. And furthermore, Dan Brown himself has claimed that his book is based on "fact" even though the characters are fictional.
Who's talking about beheading, anyway? The mere fact that a book and movie like this can be made which attacks Christianity without peals of protest from our "betters" in the elite media (as would happen if Dan Brown's target was the Jewish or Islamic religion), says to me that I'm on the right side in this. Christ taught that he world would hate us as it hated Him. Attacks like this are to be expected--and turned in our favor.

" Well said. And the truth is, it is that part of the fiction story that the author contends is true."
Not precisely correct. Brown states the locales, secret societies, and historical frameworks are true. The geographies are simple, the secret societies (Opus Dei, Masons, Knights Templar, etc), and the mythologies from the crusades are all verifiable. The idea that Christ married and had children is preposterous and is not supported by scripture. Brown has simply taken a page from the playbooks of Ludlum, LeCarre, Clancy, Clavell and others by couching a well spun yarn in historical fact.
"National Treasure" is another example of a good fictional yarn spun well.
God knows our hearts and is not mocked.
