Today a new ping list is starting on FreeRepublic, called TechSupport it will be a place for Freepers to get some help on problems that ight arise on their computers.
Why a list for this:
Some of the freepers who run or are involved in technical ping list find themselves with a good deal of mail from people asing about problems that many freepers might be able to and have more time to help with.
I have spoken to a few people who either run list or are involved on them and they fell this would accomplish three things. Firstly and most importantly get quick and responsive help to freepers who might. Secondly it will take the load off of any individual freeper from being a problem solver when they might have other things to do. Finally it will be a good place for non technical people who dont need help to educate themselves a bit more on how computers work.
Who Should Be on The List:
1) People who have expertise in any area of computing that are willing to lend a hand to help solve problems. Any area of computing will be a welcome addition to the list.
2) People who want to leanr by watching others work through problems.
How do I use The List:
To start with the list will be hosted Here (http://freerepublic.com/~n3wbi3/). In the section called TechSupport Ping copy the members of the list. Post a new message to the General/Chat section addressed to the members. This list is maintained be N3WBI3 but unlike other ping list any one (with a technical question) is free to post to the members.
I MIGHT be of some help with EUDORA.
Don't offer your negative or positive opinion of Macs, or Linux, or Windows.. just attempt to solve our fellow Freeper's problem.
Sword, I could not agree more not just OS wars but browser wars, license wars, processor wars and the like should be out. Go by moms rule, if you dont have anything nice (constructive) to say then dont say anything at all.
Please folks, no feeding of trolls.
I would like to be included in this ping list.
To that end I change my sig..
I'm willing to help offer support advice on all things Microsoft (hardware, software, programming, web, database, etc.).
I'm all up for that.
I hope it is possible to have usefull threads that can actually help people no matter what software they are running.
Put me in.
i loved Eudora. It was my first email client on an old Windows 95 machine.. i now use Thunderbird under SuSE Linux. Did the subsequent versions of Eudora ever get a utility for notifying the users of incoming mail? under Eudora 5.2 one had to check constantly.
FYI...
New Ping List PING
Am using v. 6.0.0.22 here and it can be set to check for/notify of new e-mail every x minutes.
Although for some reason Eudora has been crashing in a large way over the past 24 hours or so. So much so that I downloaded Thunderbird & am considering making the switch.
Would it have possibly been a Windows update that caused the instability? If so, perhaps Eudora has a patch out for it.
i believe that you will find Thunderbird rather feature rich. A couple of dedicated Eudora users have made the switch and never looked back. There are (for example) features that permit the use of traditional webmail outlets, such as Yahoo!, Hotmail, Gmail, and others from inside the Thunderbird email client. You can send and receive mail from the client rather than use the webmail client. Both POP and SMTP are supported. You could also configure IMAP if you so desired.
Please add me to the list.
Please add metothis tech support list, thanks.
Add me too please.
