DURHAM, N.C., April 22 The Duke University lacrosse team's troubles began with a phone call.
A team captain using an assumed name called an escort service to hire two exotic dancers for a party on March 13. Last week, two Duke players were indicted (snip)
To all but some of the people at the party, the truth of what happened that night to one of the dancers, who accused three white players of raping her in a bathroom, is a mystery.
Mr. Nifong says a sexual assault occurred, based on hospital records and the account of the accuser, who is black. A second dancer and a neighbor corroborated some of the accuser's details.
Defense lawyers say the accuser was drunk when she arrived at the party, and fabricated the assault. Taxi and bank receipts and dormitory access records prove that Mr. Seligmann could not have raped the woman, his lawyer says. (snip)
About 8:30 p.m., a 27-year-old single mother of two answered her phone. That woman, a Durham native, was enrolled at North Carolina Central, a historically black college on the south side of town. Its patchy grass and simple brick buildings are a world away from Duke.
When she arrived about 11:30 p.m., she was wearing a negligee and shiny white high heels,... (snip)
The accuser said later that both women re-entered the house after one player apologized for the behavior during their dance. She said two men then pulled her into a bathroom, locked the door and said, "Sweetheart, you can't leave."
It was then, she told the police, that Mr. Seligmann forced her to perform oral sex, and Mr. Finnerty raped and sodomized her and the third suspect strangled her, according to a transcript of a photo identification session with police on April 4. (snip)

To put a delicate face on a rather crude event. I think a man needs a bit more room to apply his reproductive wand than a woman needs to apply her mascara wand. Especially when there is a struggle going on. Would you and your friends been able to do your toilet while raising a ruckus? I doubt it.

I wonder if anyone in the media one will dare mention the anti-semitism that is part of radical black culture.

Really. Maybe I should request it from the library. It helps to have some kind of a reference point. Do you know what the subject of the book is?

I think it deals with contemporary college life. With an emphasis on such things as hooking up and other acts of self dignity open to the modern coed. ( sarcasm).

I'm sorry, but let's defend the little frat boys instead of waiting for a trial. So it's OK to railroad little frat boys, then?

However, I must admit that I am biased because I did go to this place called college and I was unfortunately privvy to some of the nasty behavior of this type of frat guy.. Ah, so therefore all frat boys are rapists until proven innocent?

And then there is the JonBenet case.

Lol! Try putting on your mascara without a stray elbow sending the darn brush straight into your eye. Those strippers are lying.
I've been thinking, and there should have been a shower curtain ripped off the rail, holes kicked in the walls, and other signs that a struggle took place. I'm waiting for the DA to show this evidence.

Tom Wolfe book that came out about around a year and a half ago about the excesses of college lives. Charlotte Simmons is the a country girl who goes to college and basically caves into peer pressure. Hoyt is a hotshot frat boy who basically uses her to get what he wants.
It's kind of timely when discussing the Duke Lacrosse case, because Tom Wolfe based Dupont University on Duke (ie elite university with a famous basketball team). It's a good book (very graphic sex scenes though), and it does a nice job discussing the excesses of college life. It got "lukewarm" reviews, because it points out some ugly realities about college life.
To: Accygirl
Jeeez, life is ugly. Parents have a moral obligation to point that out. I never got to attend college as a young adult, so I can't comment on excesses, but I've heard about them.
Thank you for the synopsis.

I had somebody try to tell me that the "lineup" as described is legit because she accused three people but there were ~46 in the team photos, therefore as a matter of definition she was in fact shown 43 pictures of people who were not suspects, so what's the problem?
I wonder if this will be Nifong's argument.

Well, the victim is supposed to be shown pictures of people who are NOT suspects mixed in with the pictures the students - all of whom were potential suspects. That way she cannot pick three at random and claim "They did it" and have those three face legal sanction. If there were a bunch of pictures of cops, for example, mixed in - she would have a 50/50 chance of picking a cop instead of a student on each pic. If she did, you'd know she was lying.
