DURHAM -- Results from the second round of DNA tests in connection with the Duke lacrosse rape investigation will not likely be available before May 15, District Attorney Mike Nifong said Saturday.
Nifong also denied an allegation by some defense attorneys that the second exotic dancer at the March 13 party where the rape allegedly occurred received special treatment from Nifong's office so she'd cooperate with the prosecutor.
Kim Roberts, 31, was arrested March 22 -- eight days after the lacrosse party -- on a probation violation from a 2001 conviction for embezzling $25,000.
The same day a grand jury indicted lacrosse players Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty, a judge agreed to a change so that Roberts would no longer have to pay a 15 percent fee to a bonding agent. Nifong signed a document saying he would not oppose the change.
Soon after the rape allegation was made, Roberts told defense attorneys that she doubted the story of her colleague who told police she was dragged into a bathroom and raped. But in an interview last week with the Associated Press, Roberts said she thinks some players -- she's not sure which ones -- are guilty.
"It seems she is receiving very favorable financial treatment [from prosecutors] for what she is now saying," said Bill Thomas, a defense attorney for one of the lacrosse players who has not been indicted.
Nifong said Saturday that wasn't his motive in agreeing to change Roberts' bond from secured to unsecured.
"It's consistent with local bonding policy," Nifong said, when asked why he supported the change.
Nifong, who faces two challengers in the May 2 Democratic primary, attended a meet-and-greet with supporters Saturday at Joe & Jo's Downtown Restaurant and Pub, where he fielded a few questions from The Herald-Sun.
Nifong ordered the second round of DNA tests from a private lab after initial tests by the SBI crime lab in Raleigh failed to find DNA from any of 46 lacrosse players tested on or in the accuser, nor any of her DNA in the bathroom in which she said she was raped, sodomized, beaten and strangled for 30 minutes by three men.
Some defense attorneys had said they expected the new DNA test results last week.
Any guesses on what "Romance Studies" are? These people are dispicable and should leave with Andover/Yale Brodhead.
As I recall she was taken in for psychiatric observation, she wasn't taken to a detox center.
Thanks. So, in other words, this is his first foray south of the line of Mr. Mason and Mr. Dixon. Not the same as in the textbooks is it Dr. Brodhead?
During her interview with NEWSWEEK, she disputed the defense timeline, but she would not go on the record to be specific about the discrepancies.
I just assumed it's the Department of Romance languages - French, Spanish, Italian - however who knows what the newest departments are in the social sciences?
See my post here, in which I closely parsed the article you linked and go back to the video of the underlying interview.

You can read the article and watch the video yourself. It is the VOICE-OVER of the ANNOUNCER which "summarizes" her interview answer into saying "they left the party".
Kim did not in fact say that. The AP wants the casual reader to come away with that impression, however.
Police logs show that the woman was taken to the Duke hospital at 2:31 a.m., after a stop at a substance-abuse center, and that she claimed she had been raped.
That's what I keep trying to explain to my New York liberal mother-in-law. She thinks southern whites hate southern blacks. I keep trying to explain to her that we have been living together for hundreds of years and that the relationship is multi-faceted and complicated like any long term relationship is bound to be.
Interesting that Brodhead "gave up" his students who, if like most Dukies, are yankees and are, if the media is right (strike me dead) are from north eastern prep schools like him. He and his english, women's studies and "romance studies" (whatever that is) faculty have no intellectual integrity or any other for that matter.
About 1/2 of one percent signed the petition.
You may be right. I remember that at first she was supposed to be taken to jail, but a female officer changed it and she was taken in for psychiatric observation. Man, that was several threads and a lot of posts ago.
He and his english, women's studies and "romance studies" (whatever that is) faculty have no intellectual integrity or any other for that matter.
That's a pretty broad brush to paint with. The faculty may have been here long before Brodhead. Let's not accuse first, then find out the facts.
I meant the ones that signed the petition. They didn't have any facts and they were making a formal accusation not blogging.
How do you change the font/color???
Okay, understood.
Let me too chime in that your behavioral post is a wonderful analysis. I am an economist and that is what we generally observe, people behave as we generally would expect them to behave, ie in their own interest as they see it.
As for the 88, I was pleased not to see "department of economics" listed there either.
That's too bad, because you really can't appreciate the full glory that is Kim without watching the interview! She definitely is a character. LOL.
