We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Happy Weekend at ATRW. As the Chair & his lovely bride wind down their second(or third or fourth?) honeymoon at the beach, those of us that remain at our humble homes will chat & share our news & our thoughts on love & life.

Movies enjoyed the past couple weeks & recommend to you if the spirit moves: The Sentinel, Inside Man; Thank You For Smoking; Take the Lead; Friends With Money.

In the news:

TomKat (Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes) had their love child, a daughter, this week. Have NOT heard if he actually did eat the placenta, like he said he would ( I do hope he was kidding)

Tony Snow fans await his decision on Monday if he will be the new White House Press secretary

Post your short news items, issues of interest, links, and so on. All who advance the Cause are welcome.

LET'S ROLL!!!

There are two movies with the same name. Totally different movies.

The movie "The Sentinel" I was talking about was made in 1977 and it is a horror film.

The only horror flick in history with FOURTEEN name stars!, 25 November 2001

Author: Noel Bailey (uds3@hotmail.com) from Baulkham Hills, New South Wales, Australia

"Campy" doesn't adequately describe THE SENTINEL, I'm not sure what does! If for no other reason, but to see actors of the caliber of Martin Balsam, Ava Gardner, Jose Ferrer, Arthur Kennedy, Christopher Walken, Chris Sarandon, Eli Wallach and Burgess Meredith all making fools of themselves, is an opportunity you simply cannot pass up in this dumb tale of yet another gateway to Hell!

Cristina Raines plays Alison Parker, a willowy model who decides to move in to a spooky Brooklyn apartment building, remarkably similar to that which Rosemary and her baby recently vacated. Looks like the place is managed by the same body corporate! Tenanted mainly by the aforementioned actors, Miss Raines soon discovers that things are just not kosher somehow. Scenes decidedly campy and less so, blur both her and the audience's lines of reality. Worthy of an academy award alone is that where Raines is seated opposite D'Angelo watching her masturbate. The camera remains on her face as she begins to crack-up in obvious embarrassment at D'Angelo's antics - who wouldn't have? It's arguably the shot of the century!

Michael Winner directs with his usual "God knows what this is gonna turn out like" philosophy. Responsible for such good films as THE MECHANIC and such losers as DEATH WISH 4, its a 50:50 proposition with ANY of his pics!

My question is: Did Katie make any noise during the delivery? (I have a shallow mind.)

Great opening, I especially liked the cartoon about legal and illegal immigration, so true.

Speaking of Spenser, he's UNPREDICTABLE. What a guy. On the one hand, he's a big baby, and on the other hand, he's a tough guy! LOL

Jeff is in Winston salem (which is what I get the alerts for) you live about 90 miles away in the same city as my cousin bill. I don't get alerts for him & the weather is often similar but often NOT.

My friend mark & I are hoping to get a quick trip to see son Jeff & Bill(cousin) in next month or so. If we do, perhaps we can meet briefly at my cousin's home? (hubby too) - for drinks/dinner/whatever. My time there in your community will be limited. Maybe an overnight but I do want to see you.

Will keep you posted.

Well, I had NOT heard of that Sentinel.. Will try to see if I can find it on video/DVD eventually. I like some of the classic campy movies. Thanks for info. Just another quick break here before I get my "list" attacked. Since I have no "honey" here, I get the honeydo list all for my self!

You know my fascination is that I really like Tom Cruise's work. He IMHO has made some great movies over the years. He seems to either be becoming a fruitcake or is milking the craziness for publicity for MI3(previews look good).

I recall when I was in seminary & had a couple cult courses, I could NOT for the life of me understand how intelligent, educated people would get involved with Scientology. But there are a lot of them.

Rather than people finding God as He is.. they find a convenient way for their lifestyle & desires to find a religion that fits!

so with TomKat there are all the cutie rules & behaviors that are really humorous if they weren't so sad.(like silence in childbirth.. common, I KNOW A MAN WROTE THAT ONE)

I am doing okay & as usual procastinating with my impt stuff. I was impressed last night that you got your studying done before you visited threads. I NEVER had that kind of discipline in under grad school

I was up early "goofing" ...not "golfing" unfortunately!

Tomorrow on the course after church it will probably be packed. the dogs & I will be staying deep in woods, but I need to be careful as last Sunday Toby was chased by two rather large. menacing wolfs.. they turned around & took off when I yelled. He was about 150 feet from me & they were about 15 feet from him & gaining.

scary

I always hope for my hike time for a nice drizzle & maybe a little electrical activity as all the (sane) people leave the course & doggies & I can walk the paths rather than play mountain climber up & down couple hundred feet ravines

Lol I'm fine. I got to sleep late this morning since I didn't have to work. You shouldn't be too impressed about me doing homework last night though. I've been putting off that homework for a couple of weeks now. And now I'm procrastinating on starting my take home essays (the final exams for 3 of my poli sci classes)...even though I promised myself I was gonna start those today. Oh well. Maybe I'll do em later.

It's an all-Brahms concert...and I love B....like you love Mozart:-)

The orchestra is playing a couple of the Hungarian Dances, and the rousing Academic Festival Overture...

We singing the songs Brahms used as themes for this piece, so that's interesting.

the bulk of the concert will be our choral music, however: the first section of the Triumphlied, which is a wonderful Hallelujah chorus...

Nanie...Schicksalslied...How Lovely, from the Requiem, and Ave Maria (women's voices)...For the encore, we doing his Lullaby with the audience joining in on a repeat.

The Ave is in Latin, the Triumphlied chorus is English as is the How Lovely, the rest is in German.

The guest conductor is retiring this year as Director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus...While he knows his stuff, and certainly has an affinity for Brahms and the German language, he doesn't always manage us in the way we're used to...our regular director really knows how to bring out the best in us, by drawing high standards with humor, praise, and criticism in the right places and combination...
