At this point I'm just waiting to hear what the courts decide. I don't trust defense attorneys any more than I trust most prosecutors.
It wouldn't be the first time a defense team set out to destroy an accuser. Remember the guy who raped and murdered the little girl next door? In that case it became all about tyhe victims family and friends when the defense knew their client was guilty.
Ya wanna field this one?
lol!
I've been trying to keep a wait-and-see attitude, but think that the DA's grandstanding via numerous press conferences has been highly inappropriate.
That is complete and utter B.S. If the roles were reversed, the authorities would be so afraid of calling down the wrath of the race baiters they would be limiting the amout of information that was being released to the media. Not to mention the races of the principles involved would be omitted from reports.
Why would the DA have someone hire the girl to tell such lies? That is the lowest political scheme I can imagine.
I know that there are Carolina grads who have it in for Duke, but this is a bit much.
It's not only unraveling, it's completely OUT OF CONTROL.
As others have noted, she made some specific allegations about what happened and where it happened. Yet, at this time, no corroborating evidence has surfaced. And there may be some contradictory statements. A brand new DA fresh out of law school would be very very reluctant to file any charges in this situation without some solid substantiation. I think this case is unraveling. Her character as to past events will be strongly attacked if she takes the stand. Still, there might be a couple of guys in trouble, but I don't think it will be for the most serious charges.
Is Rev. Al on the scene yet ??
GWEN IFILL
GWEN IFILL: Now for more on this story, I'm joined by Bob Ashley, editor of the "Durham Herald-Sun." He's a 1970 Duke graduate and now covers the Durham community.
Welcome, Bob.
BOB ASHLEY, Editor, "Durham Herald-Sun": Thank you.
GWEN IFILL: Why is this a big story?
"
BOB ASHLEY, Editor, "Durham Herald-Sun":
Why is it a big story? I think it combines so many forces right now. It combines the question of race. It combines the question of, you know, 200 years of concern over exploitation of black women by white men of privilege. It contains the elements of an elite university and its surrounding community.
Many of the neighbors have long been concerned about raucous parties, so we have undergraduate party behavior there at issue. We have sexual violence against women.
It's really a perfect storm of events that have come together and causes that have come together.
I said the whole thing smelled fishy when it first was announced. Just like that ludicrous Runaway Bride debacle. I can smell rats from 3000 miles away.
Right now I don't see how they could convict one guy if the girl said 3 did it.
Officer in case: 'She's just passed out drunk'
/ Associated Press
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A woman who claims she was raped by members of Duke University's lacrosse team was described as "just passed-out drunk" by one of the first police officers to see her, according to a recording of radio traffic released Thursday.
The conversation between the officer and a police dispatcher took place about 1:30 a.m. March 14, about five minutes after a grocery store security guard called 911 to report a woman in the parking lot who would not get out of someone else's car.
The officer gave the dispatcher the police code for an intoxicated person. When asked whether the woman needed medical help, the officer said: "She's breathing and appears to be fine. She's not in distress. She's just passed out drunk."
The woman, a 27-year-old stripper and college student, told police she was raped and beaten by three men around midnight at an off-campus party thrown by Duke's lacrosse team.
No charges have been filed, but District Attorney Mike Nifong has said he believes a crime was committed. Attorneys for the players have said DNA tests failed to connect any players to the alleged attack, and they have urged Nifong to drop his investigation.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
This is starting to sound like one of the Rev. Al Sharpton deals from a few years ago to me. Did her "man" or her "pinp" do this to her? Something is strange with this deal.
I can't believe we're up to 160 posts and no one has mentioned the two most important words to consider in regards to this story
