Is The Duke Rape Story Unraveling?
Yahoo ^ | 04/12/06 | Tom Bevan

Posted on 04/12/2006 5:09:07 PM PDT by Perdogg

There's probably no better way to get a feel for what's been happening in the Duke University lacrosse team rape story than to read a series of revised news alerts on the case issued by the Durham Police's Crimestoppers unit. An initial release sent out April 3 which offered cash rewards for tips about the case read: "The victim was sodomized, raped, assaulted and robbed. This horrific crime sent shock waves throughout our community."

Yesterday at 11:16am, according to the Raleigh News & Observer, Crimestoppers issued a revised version of the same news release which dropped the entire second sentence about a "horrific crime" and also added a qualifier to the first: "The victim alleges that she was sodomized, raped, assaulted and robbed." [emphasis added]

A mere eighteen minutes later a third revision was issued, changing the word "victim" to "complainant."

The evolving facts in the case seem to not only warrant those revisions but also to suggest that the case may be in the process of unraveling.

He still has the second DNA test results to come back.

He's got to balance between (1) satisfying the hang em high consituency who wanted arrests weeks ago and (2) stringing the whole thing out so that his case doesn't totally collapse before the election.

I can't believe we're up to 160 posts and no one has mentioned the two most important words to consider in regards to this story

Tawana Brawley

When my 2 oldest sons were in high school we lived in Syracuse. I was glad they went the football route as opposed to lacrosse. You can get really hurt playing lacross, LOL!

BTW, NBC17 is reporting that the security guard said that the accuser was out of it in the car, that she appeared intoxicated but she didn't smell anything, and she said that when the police got there, it took a long time to get the girl awake enough to get her out of the car and that they finally had to pry her fingers loose from the car brake to lift her out -- yes, lift her out.

And she said the police were did not say they were going to take her to the hospital -- they said they were going to take her to the 24 hour holding tank.

The rape case was dismissed, but Bryant was never proved innocent. He was almost surely guilty.

Well, you can believe anything you want.

All his statements about the case were proven to be lies.

As were Kate Fabers'. What kind of woman would have sex within 12 hours after a supposed rape?

He said he never had sex with the victim.

I don't recall him saying that. He said he didn't rape her, and she never proved that he did, which is what an accuser has to do in our system of justice.

My son's a H.S. senior who played football in the fall and lacrosse in the spring. He's a tough kid and has not been hurt except for a little bursitis in his knee last year. His mother and I are crossing our fingers.

You can always tell the late arrivals to a story that has been going on for at least two weeks. [ducks]

There was a thread at 875 posts then. See my links upthread.

If "Rev." Al is supposed to show up Sunday at 610 N. Buchanan, I wish I had the time and energy to rig up a battery powered PA system and put it way up in the tall tree next to the house or maybe across the street. Every time he went to say something I could then play back his own sound bites from the "Tawana Brawley" case. It would be funny watching people in their "Sunday go to meeting clothes" trying to climb the tree to get it down.

I would pay for the flight and an admission fee to see that!! LOL

You can always tell the late arrivals to a story

one of the great failings of lazy conservatives is that, once they put forward the argument that "wins the case," they don't want to have to do it again.  This is one of Rush Limbaugh's greatest failings.  He doesn't like to repeat himself.  He therefore retires from the field and concedes the "conventional wisdom" to the other side.

The left, on the other hand, has developed "The Dialectic" to an art.  They settle on a few simplistic arguments (lies) and repeat them endlessly, ad nauseum.  By sheer repitition they "win" the argument because we don't think we have to take the field and discredit what they've said because we did it once.

Every time on every thread we must make sure that the facts and appopriate background information is referenced.

Every time.

And I said "Tawana Brawley" on day one.  I'll say it again on day 1001 if they're still pushing the same politically correct crap on us.  Somebody's got to be willing to challenge them every time they bring up the same BS arguments.

Just because you said it once, several days ago, doesn't take you off the hook for saying it again on a new thread or when a new poster raises the same crap.

I don't recall him saying that.

Where you paying attention at all? He had a giant news conference with his wife, where he proclaimed he never had sex with her and he had never cheated on his wife, ever. And he had her there vouching for him. That's your idea of integrity?

No. Bryant's an adulterer.

But he was not proven to be a rapist.

His upcoming election is most likely contributing to his unwise behaviour.

While in the background you can hear a multi-loo orchestra gurgling the end of his career in public life.

I'd love to see real prison time for filing false claims of rape. But it won't happen....

We've got a better chance sending repeat rapists to death row than the NOW hags giving up any protection rape victims have. Unfortunately those protections also allow women to make false accusation and basically get away with it.

You are right. "DA" is the kind of role Susan would prefer. "DA of Bull Durham". Yep.

It just goes to show if people are determined to believe they are somehow a victim, and we as a society are so willing to believe everybody who claims to be victimized, we actually harm true victims of violent crime.

Yes.

And YES, you are right about all those "repressed memories" and the "day-care" abuse cases happening simultaneously.

To this day, I can still see the faces of women at work, at social events suddenly revealing that they "too" had been molested or raped. And they were so excited to be the center of attention. I usually had to go to the bathroom while they were extolling their "cases".

Early on, I tried one simple response: Gee, I've not been molested. And received the classic response: "Maybe you've repressed it". I knew then the area, and especially females had gone coo-coo.

They sure post here enough.

Also, folks who are "squishy" on many issues hear the other sides arguments or they get posted here as part of articles. We must repeat our arguments every time a thread comes up with a point that needs to be corrected or refuted. And repeat it. And repeat it.

Well it was San Fran ;-)

It's scary to see how many people ended up losing everything, living in prison and some are still there because a psychologist was able to find these "repressed" memories.

I'm glad that in this day and age, for the most part repressed memories of children are looked upon skeptically.
