Is this clown serious? He was making statements to the media weeks ago that he was "sure" that a rape was committed. Now we learn he did this knowing full well that alleged victim Crystal Gail Mangum was unable to pick ANY of the three player's photos out of a picture lineup?

NOW he says (at a town meeting down at the black college, pandering for votes) the fact she was able to pick ONE picture out of a photo lineup three weeks later (this is AFTER the whole teams photos along with their names were published in the Raleigh News and Observer)is evidence that helps HER. The kids she accused are the same ones who hired her for the party and she was looking at them the entire time she was at the house (when she wasn't flat on her face passed out drunk). Is it so surprising that she could pick one of them out of a photo lineup? What the heck does that prove?

The fact that she couldn't identify them earlier is actually evidence of just how drunk/high she was that night and how unreliable she is as a witness.

I wonder what the state bar ethics rules are about pursuing a case in the absence of evidence, or in the presence of extenuating evidence, and what the rules are about providing pictures of people to her to help her memory.

Witness tampering? Nah, a prosecutor would never coach a witness just to bump up his win percentage, would he?

Hmm. She knows that one guy on the team is, in fact, on the team.

If I were that boy, I'd be thinking about defamation suits right about now, not rape trials.

It will go to trial. She will lose but the DA will be reelected and she will have her defenders, even here on FR.

It will be interesting to see if she now suddenly also "identifies" the two guys who live in the house and whose DNA is on the towel in the bathroom (of course, one of them could be the one she has already claimed to identify). Their pictures are of course on the "wanted" posters of the lacrosse team circulating around town.

Also, I'll point out that other posters have noted from news reports that the second stripper, Kim, said Mangum never mentioned anything about a rape to her. So it would appear the prosecutor does not have much evidence supporting his case from Kim, and the idea that the two of them are colluding to support the rape allegation seems unlikely.

Is rape of a drunk woman something other than rape? I'm not sure what your point is.

Was the one she identified at the party?

This has all the makings of the Kobe Bryant fiasco, only worse.

Kate Faber had consensual sex with two other men, with Kobe sandwiched in between, and insisted that the guy with the deepest pockets raped her.

Here, this wench wasn't even touched, and she's still after some coin.

The DA and his defenders (the always-pissed Wendy Murphy on FOXNEWS) will go down in flames rather than admit there's no case.

How could there have been a rape if there is no DNA.

Nada. None.

Is this the same D.A. who 2 weeks ago was bellowing about a Clinton-style semen-spewing gangrape of a poor black girl by white boys? And now it comes out that there's not a trace of DNA evidence anywhere near this stripper that implicated the team members? Is this the same dirty rat who's running for re-election by playing the race card?

But according to feminized American jurisprudence there is a case. It only takes an accusation by the female. After all, why would a woman falsely claim rape?

Last week he said that the DNA tests would "conclusively" tell him who the perps were. I guess he just didn't like the answer he got..

No need to wonder:

The ABA is very clear about it; he's WAY out of line, including his statements that she WAS raped.

This man will be brought up on ethics charges.

[She said she had broken off five artificial fingernails while scraping the arm of one of the men who was holding her. "There is no DNA evidence that shows any of these boys were touched by her fingernails," Cheshire said]

Maybe the DA should tell the people how a "rape victim" can break five finger nails scratching off an attackers skin and not have ANY DNA evidence.

The DA needs to come clean before he gets a Duke student killed in a race riot. If he has evidence, he needs to show it.

After all, why would a woman falsely claim rape?

During the Bryant trial, I remember a statistic from some national crime database that said that 50% of all rape claims turn out to be false.

In the 80s there was Tawanna Brawley.

In the 90s, there were those black church burnings that were NOT caused by white people.

This decade we can easily do a search on the internet and find the multitude of phony hate crimes that never turned out to be anything but what I call AFFIRMATIVE FICTION!!!

Now, we have the local DA (who I hear is up for re-election) preaching to a nearby black college telling the rabid crowd he is still going ahead with the case... Where is Susan Powter to "Stop The Madness!" when we need her? (I know, obscure 90s reference...)
