Pit bulls on the loose went on a rampage Thursday and terrorized a southwest Philadelphia neighborhood. The dogs escaped from their backyard at 53rd Street and Cedar Avenue and ran several blocks through the neighborhood, attacking several people. Their rampage ended with a policeman shooting one of the dogs.

You saw that I refuted an assertion in my reply, just blind to admit.
- Loving, yet Aggressive.
- Calm, yet Intense.
- Sweet, yet Mean.
To the extent that the contradictions are greater in this breed than others, one could characterize the breed as "unpredictable."
It doesn't matter what caused the "unpredictability" of the breed in the first place - this is not a good trait for a house pet.
"bfl" = "bump for later"
It just means that I want to read the thread but don't have time right now I mark it with "bfl" so later on, when I have some time, I'll check my pings and find this thread.

Ultimate home protection?
....which I obviously did, btw.
("btw" = "by the way")
Yes ...Is it really an attack if the dog never makes contact?
He didn't look like he was torn up too bad. I wonder what the purpose of a near full page story for a torn sweater is about.
Equal press to satisfy the Pit Bull crowd I reckon.
So would it be an accident if the same incident occurred with a breed that hadn't fighting origins?
The Postal service recently released a report and warning it's workers about dogs...
It's almost an acurial certainty isn't?
That's the whole point this breed presents a higher acturial risk than other breeds. Pits are responsible for Twice as many human deaths as the next "At RISK" breed.
I grew up owning a Wiemaraner...My family researched before selecting the breed. Even though a Wei is roughly the same size as a pit, the breed is only responsible for one mauling and zero human deaths compared to nearly 900 maulings and 80 deaths caused by pits.
Don't try to spin that genetics isn't a factor here!
Temperment is general to breed, but unique to individual dogs.
You can test it. The American Temperament Test Society, Inc. has data for breeds.
AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER

Interesting. I wonder how I would score on that test? : )

FR has a loud Bigoted Towards Pitbulls Posse..lol
not right by me but all around
I don't disagree with you there in the slightest.
One of FR's perennial pit haters posting on this thread
thinks it's ok for him to walk his dogs off leash in the neighborhood.
How does that work?
Well, according to sinkspur...
"You realize, don't you, that the American Staffordshire line is going to be bred out of existence? Arnold Schwarzenegger just signed a law allowing California communities to require sterilization of pit owners, and pit mix owners. That will eventually come to every state."
sinkspur is to "pit bulls" as
Jack Chick is to Catholicism.
You can no more trust a gun-owner to safely contain their gun than you can a pit owner to safely contain their dog. </liblogic>
"Four Poodles Escape, Terrorize Neighborhood"
Oh, yeah, I'm waiting for that one to show up in my local paper. If it ever does I'll post it here.
