Scientists blame sun for global warming (February 13, 1998)
BBC News ^ | Climatologists and astronomers

Posted on 04/07/2006 12:09:17 PM PDT by george76

Climate changes such as global warming may be due to changes in the sun rather than to the release of greenhouse gases on Earth.

Climatologists and astronomers speaking at the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Philadelphia say the present warming may be unusual - but a mini ice age could soon follow.

The sun provides all the energy that drives our climate, but it is not the constant star it might seem.

Careful studies over the last 20 years show that its overall brightness and energy output increases slightly as sunspot activity rises to the peak of its 11-year cycle.

Hopefully the UN will come up with some plan which punishes the Sun if it doesn't get its act together. Maybe higher taxes on photons would do the trick.

You mean changes in the intensity of the sun's rays can cause increased warming??!!!? (Driftless scratches noggin in bewilderment)

Just what was our ability to measure sun activity in 1706? Is it even possible to truly tell whether the sun is actually more active today than it was 300 years ago?

LOL! Finally Scientists have became aware of what the rest of us already knew. What a relief it is to see them at last, blaming the "sun" rather than blaming every Mother's "son" in the USA.

LOL! We could include the entire southern hemisphere in that warming. With the exception of antartica, of course.

when you take into account how much cooler it is INDOORS (with air conditioning), the AVERAGE of indoor and outdoor temperatures has actually gown DOWN :<)
Actually A/C does not "put cold in". It "takes hot out", and rather inefficiently. The best way to think about it is the transfer of heat from one area to another, via things with a lot of surface area; using a gas that gets compressed to (near) liquid form. More of an exchange of temperature.

So when we get the mini-ice age all the people driving the SUV's will be helping save the environment by warming it up and the ones driving the hybrids will be damaging the environment by reducing emissions. Also, Haliburton will be beneficial to saving the world by providing the fossil fuels to warm it back up. The libs heads would explode!

The climate model I have running on my computer doesn't take any solar heat into consideration, and this model shows the Earth getting hotter and hotter, year after year ... Explain that!!

The climate model, your computer and you are defective.
