FR Folding@Home Project Update - We're in the Top 150 teams Worldwide! (A Tribute to Ronald Reagan)

OK, new thread for the next week, celebrating the first of many Million point producers – our very own Klutz_Dohanger!

First, a big shout out to the SETI and BOINC members who have added CPUs to the effort. Remember, its Team 36120, NOT Team 0.

Next, congrats to all for bumping our team up to 1011 processors and 305 user names. We have a number of new users in the team, with over 50 computers from GetLoaded.com, a trucking support website, all contributing while their owners ply our freeways keeping the nation moving.

We now have 57 members who have contributed at least 10,000 points each. Woo-Hoo!

Even more impressive, our team now boasts 225 members who have folded at least 1,000 points. That is more than the entire number of folders for our erstwhile left-wing environazi competitors!

Free Republic Folding@Home Stats Page

On the global front, Free Republic Folders is now listed at # 157. We will be in the Top 150 on Saturday!

As we continue to grow there are a number of milestones coming around the bend:

Top 150 by March 30
Top 100 by the end of the May

We have 3,350,000 points so far and have folded over 20,000 WU. We now fold over a million points per month, each and every month! Fantastic!

Thanks again to all that are helping us advance science and promote the peaceful use of computers.

"...but I've got to learn more Linux..."

If you want to try Linux, I suggest you try the 'Mepis' flavor of it.  It's an easy install, finds all the hardware & configures it for you (very good with older hardware) - not much for you to do except to install the FAH Linux console & configure it.  That's what I did and I know nothing about Linux.  Here's a link to find out more & download Mepis (it's free):  http://www.mepis.org/

"...I've got my firewall so tight I can't get out on my DSL."

Dude - you've got a series firewall, there, LOL.  I hope you're teaching it some manners - I'd hate to see you disappear into a black hole or something, heheh.

Wednesday bump. We are holding at 1038 active CPUs.

Not bad considering we have 100+ CPUs that are not active folders.

Speaking of your brother, how's he doing on the Linux version of your monitor?

OK. Linux version is up at the Help Page-- which has been rewritten to accomodate both flavors. ...well, I'm still working on the scheduling section.

I'm going to be pretty limited in my ability to support the Linux side, as I'm a novice user, and my brother has made it pretty clear that he's no longer in a support career path...

"Bump to say welcome to the 20K club, Doc!"

Thanks and the same to you. Now I need to find out why one of my machines has not logged in for a week! All three have been folding their little chips out, but the stat page says one is off line. Hmmmmm...

I installed Egon's little script and now I can check the status of all my machines in one place, and see which ones haven't checked in recently. That would at least tell you which computer is misbehaving...

I installed to run as a service on some machines that run 24/7. 2 of them said that the cores had been shut down improperly when I checked them today - trashed what they had and started over.

Delicate monsters.

What is the procedure for uninstalling on a machine running console mode?

When I get these things cleaned up and stable I intend to put your thingy on them.

Uninstalling what? The script from the machine? You should just remove the scheduled task from your scheduler. You can delete the script or not. Your machine will disappear from the monitor after 5 days (or 7 depending on the mood I'm in, until I get the automated script working).

If you're talking about the folding service itself, the answer can probably be found here: http://folding.stanford.edu/faq-uninstall.html

To summarize, it sounds like you just delete the folding folder (sounds kinda redundant), and it will take care of itself. However, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be wise to bring up Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services, and disable the service first (assuming it's listed there).

I've never done this, so I'm kinda pulling it out of my.... well, whatever.

The FAQ that Egon linked to is the official answer. For the console version, they instruct users to delete the FAH binary (wherever it was installed). However, I'm not sure that that will actually unregister it from the list of services. I'll check it out tomorrow. You're going to love Egon's tool. It takes me about 10 seconds to check the status of all my machines, and I don't have to worry about whether anyone is working on them.
