Find a partner or grab your favorite beverage & listen to some Irish tunes .A couple of wave files - full-length, lilting, Irish melodies - they are so beautiful! I hope you can open them, or "save target as" to your hard drive and listen to them later.
"My Wild Irish Rose" ~ John Gary "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" ~ John Gary
MIDIS
"Irish Lullabye" "The Last Rose of Summer" "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" "Danny Boy"
Why Saint Patrick's Day?
Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.
So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.
In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

Dear FRiends.. MY SINCERE APOLOGY for not being able to post the ping.. I left at 7PM.. (expensive theater tickets.. could not wait) and for some mysterious reason did NOT have cable since about noon. I called & was told they new of area problem & were "working on it".. I skipped dinner out hoping that it would kick in.
I had NO one's telephone number to call.. I had lots of emails of folks.. but w/o cable could do nothing
I will be FReepmailing many of you with the idea of helping co-host a thread once ever 6 weeks or so.. IF you would be interested let me know.. you would be paired with opposite sex person & just be host/hostess.. do the opening (it DOES NOT have to be fancy like I did) and keep the ball rolling & the conversations full but civil...
again, I am sooooo sorry - I haven't even gone to the thread yet but found this ping from RockinRight (yea Ohio!)

I love Toby Keith and Charlie Daniels. I don't really know anything about those other kinds of music. I went from listening to alternative and pop and (yikes) rap in high school to listening to country in college.

Do you really need help from a friend for that first one, though?

The rifle pic that I posted is of a "Crickett Model 253 Red, White, & Blue Laminate / Blue 22LR Youth Rifle" sold at Walmart. I ran across your previous answer a few posts later. I'm sorry that I made you post it twice.
Your educational achievements are impressive. I hope you're able to find a good job as a professor. I have a friend who's a political science professor. He likes the job very much, but the field is strange.
I wouldn't mind teaching after I retire. I have two master's degrees but no Ph.D., so I might be limited to community or junior colleges. Maybe I could find something at a regular college if I hit them at a down time. My industry experience might be enough to tempt a college into taking me on as someone who's seen the real world.

Are we playing 20 questions?!?!?!?
You only listed 5 questions?!?!?!
1. Why is it that to stop Windows, you have to click on "Start"?
You can bypass that altogether and just hit the 'power' button on your computer.
2. Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
They haven't tried yet. Relative to your Q1, why haven't women figured out how to use computers? :-)
3. Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"?
Because they're full of shite to begin with.
4. Why is a boxing ring square?
Because a BOX-ing ring HAS to be square.
5. Why is it considered necessary to nail down the lid of a coffin?
So you can create scary stories to tell children.
Do I get a dance now?

Maybe I could find something at a regular college if I hit them at a down time. My industry experience might be enough to tempt a college into taking me on as someone who's seen the real world. Many universities (not just junior colleges) hire people with master's degrees to teach full time. Many hire them as instructors, but some hire them as professors.
