In a world where every day untold numbers of terrorists are plotting to kill as many men, women, and yes, little children as possible, where are the MSM's priorities?Everyone knows this is a manufactured obfuscation of current events, designed to remove public interest from the alledged fallacies and machinations of the President.
It was all arranged by Karl Rove and was timed to coincide with his appearance at the funeral of that King person.
So sayeth the DUmmies, anyway, or words to that effect.
As for me...I can only say...."Who the hell cares what Brittany Steers does or does not do?"

Oh, come on. This "story" is nothing more than a bunch of self-righteous busybodies expressing faux outrage. What is the big deal? Such a non-story. Have any of these reporters EVER not buckled their kid? Man, I remember as a kid standing up in the front seat of my mothers car as we were going down the road. Of course she told me to sit, but really, from the breathlessness of all the reports you would think Spears held a knife to the kid's throat.

I'm down in Mexico this week and I see this every day countless times. We are so risk averse in the US that I think we are getting to the point where we would sacrifice our freedom to avoid any risk. That is what is "so-so very scary".

She would've been wise to say that she moved the car a brief distance to get away from the photographers hounding her and then immediately put the child back in the carseat.
Britney is not wise.

My mama always carried "the baby" (whichever of us that was) in her lap. All six of us survived.
This law is an encroaching law. The size of the child who must ride in a car$eat keeps increasing. Can anyone say LOBBIEST?

Any reputation that Britney has is not her fault. I personally don't care about her, but as far as the way she acts and presents herself, she is no different from half of the other women out there.
Sure, she might have an obligation to present herself in a certain way because of the millions of little girls that idolize her, but her personal life and behavior is no different from anyone else.
In fact, when you look at some of the real welfare slutty trash that inhabits our society, Brittany starts to look pretty good.
I ask anyone who talks about Brittany, honestly, what would the world think had cameras recorded your every waking moment when you were her age??

Sad thing is, this sort of thing happens across the USA. I know the older folks out there will say "heck, I dont know how I survived all this time not beng buckled as a baby". I understand where you are coming from but strictly from a statistical standpoint, many children did indeed die from being unbuckled or being held by a parent in a passenger seat (or the drivers seat in this case).
There are cases where kids have died as a result of being strapped in a car while it was on fire but that is the exception to a rule that has proven itself. Don't listen to Aunt Bessie who proclaims to know better than the statistics that prove her wrong.
If anything, Britany did as huge service to the cause of child safety for buckling them up correctly and making sure their safety trumps your comfort, even if it did endanger her child (poor thing...ugh).
To many times have I heard stories of parents thinking they can hold their baby better than a car seat. To many times have I heard parents screaming of inconveniences of putting a child in a car seat and how time consuming it is. They are wrong, holding your baby in a crash is equal to holding a 300-400 lbs bag of sugar while bungy jumping. Good luck holding on.
The guilt of knowing better but still not following through on the general principal of a parent taking all measures to protect your child in an automobile in the name of convenience has to be beyond all understanding. But the guilt is well deserved.
I always battle with myself over seatbelt laws for adults in cars but for children, there is no alternative. Telling your kids what to eat or how to act is totally different than telling you that you must use a safety harness on your children to maximize chances of a positive result in a negative event such as a crash. Doing less is nothing short of child endangerment.
You may disagree with me but millions of children no longer among us who was not afforded the same precautionary measures and have gotten the raw end of the deal would stand in opposition to you.
Mind you im not calling anyone bad parents. At worst Im calling out ignorance on the subject and I beg you to read up on information that details the results of crash at even 25-30 mph to a child without proper restraint.
I couldnt look at another picture of my child and not feel like I killed them if they were killed as a result of my negligence of not taking their safety seriously enough on even the shortest trip to the store of school.

The real story here is that she was driving an SUV.
To: governsleastgovernsbest
My uncle did the same thing to me (though just around the neighborhood) when I was a little boy. He even let me steer the wheel. I still remember it to this day, and he is my favorite uncle.
Back when I was riding a motorcycle (Yamaha V-Max) on a regular basis, my nieces and nephews ages 6 -12 would beg me to take them for a ride. I would strap my full face helmet on them, set the younger ones on the gas tank in front of me and scoot way up so they were supported on either side by my thighs. They would then grab onto the handle bars and off we wold go through the neighborhood. Looking at that from the perspective of a pansy nanny state, that might seem dangerous and stupid. Looking at it from the perspective of an uncle who loves his nieces and nephews, and who wants them to enjoy life and experience as much as possible, I say screw the nanny state. Those kids will never forget those rides and still to this day ask if I have a motorcycle.
Plus, these kids mothers and fathers know I would give my life for the kids and trusted them with me (even if they did say a little prayer as I pulled away :)
Now having said that, Britney Spears would not be my first choice of role models, but what she does short of physically abusing her children is irrelevant to me.

I live on a dirt road in the country. Sometimes I let my 4 year old daughter sit on my lap and "drive". I guess I'm a horrible parent. Don't tell my daughter though; she thinks I'm the greatest.
