Pcottraux's Friday FReeptoon
February 3, 2006 | pcottraux

Everyone, I just thought I’d announce that tonight marks the 40th FReeptoon I’ve drawn and posted. I don’t know if that means anything, but I’m sure it’s worth mentioning.

And now for tonight’s Dinklemeyer:

This is one of my favorites. It’s very simple and efficient, yet it’s also sharp and funny. I also brings a name to the gym coach character (Stroganoff). He, the principal, and the bully both have been established as minor characters who make occasional appearances. He is VERY MUCH based on my own experiences with ridiculous sadistic and uncaring drill-sergeant-like coaches.

This strip is also important, however, within the context of the strip’s evolution. If you look at the entire notebook full of Dinklemeyer strips as a whole, united linear story, then this, my friends, is the sunset of Act I. The world has been introduced, the protagonist has been developed, and the world’s possibilities are being explored. The beginning is over. Now, starting with the next strip (to be run Tuesday), we will begin to meet new, funny characters and see the possibilities of where this world can go.

Or, if you don’t take cartoons as seriously as I do, then you can just look at this as a silly, fun little doodle. Whichever you prefer.

I don't know who I should be more scared of, the Muzzies or the DUers.

Actually, some left-wing blog website picked up one of my cartoons once and were debating like crazy over who "P. Lattraux" was (they couldn't tell my name from the signature).

Pookie18 knows about that.

Yeah, they got it from pookie's "Today's Toons" thread. It was this one.

They didn't run the first two panels, though.

THAT'S the one!

I left a comment telling the guy what my name was. But I think it was too late: no one responded.

He said he'd be checking out Today's Toons & would write a piece on it every Friday, but like the typical libloon he never followed up on it.

That's a powerful story in gym class.I was in adaptive physical ed myself which was a good thing, a smaller class and so on. We did things like archery and weightlifting most of the other students didn't do so that was cool. We only had like 3 or 4 students so when we were in the weight room, I took in my ghetto blaster, this huge 1979 Radio Shack SCR-3 I have, for some tunes and we exercised to that as we listened to the latest 80's tunes. I could even fit it in my gymbag too, even next to the Ricochet Racer gun (if you read my story for physics class), boy that sucker was heavy. B-) Ran on 8 D batteries too. It was very fun and you got more attention that way.

My buddy I stll hang with topped me though, he was into "portable computing" even before laptops came out, even before the "luggable" Osborne 1 computer. He had a TRS-80 Color Computer I, a 5 inch B&W TV for a monitor, and a cassette tape deck for the programs all stashed away in his gymbag/backpack. He must have thought he was Arnold Schwartzenegger or something, tell you the truth, I think he still thinks that way. B-)

I figure it was time for a good story in school plus a little laughs on the side. B-)

I love how you photoshopped some of the drawings over pictures for flames.

Congrats on your 40th Freeptoon!!! :)

LOL how true that Dinkmeye cartoon is. Ins chool bad behaviour is always rewarded.

Hey buddy.

What I like about that last panel is that the shark says the the Danish media wants to come for NSA protection, and then you see that that has seriously ticked the donkey off. The Dems hate that wiretapping thing!

The second panel was made using that program, The Gimp, that you showed me. I have to say, it's still hard work, but it was LOADS easier than MS Paint. It's a great program.
