Is this helping me to retain more of the work?

Several others have replied that it's probably not worth the effort... I agree. If you want to be really sure you've saved that last bit of info, check the Log file; when it says that it's "Writing local files", your last checkpoint has been written. Then you can shut down and salvage the last few minutes of folding.

Anyone know why Folding causes my linksys 802.11g pcmcia card to disconnect every so often only to reconnect a few seconds later?

No obvious ideas off the top of my head... does this occur when Folding is not running? If not, any chance your machine is getting a bit too warm while Folding beats the snot out of the CPU?

Would you, by any chance, have an idea as to why my son's Win XP PC successfully sends the completed work unit and receives a new one, but doesn't start processing it automatically? [I think he said he had to reinstall F@H to get it to start processing the new unit.]

I have no idea... is he running the GUI version or the console? I know the GUI version can be set to stop processing when the current WU is finished. The console version has an option called '-oneunit' that will cause it to stop work once the current WU has finished.

Beyond that, I'm not sure right now without knowing more about the setup.

He's running the GUI version with the protein icon in the systray. His folding doesn't "pause when done," it just doesn't automatically start working on the new work unit when it is downloaded.

Only if you wait 5-10 minutes before turning it off.

Yes, I've been doing that.

My PC is on in the morning for about two hours at home, then off until I arrive at work, on for 8 hours, then off until I arrive at home, then on again for 2-4 hours.

I figured I could be losing up to 70 mins. of work every day, so I've been resetting it at some point in the last half hour before I turn it off.

:-)

Yea, only when folding runs does my 802.11g card drops. I run the program as a service and I noticed one thing, my client.cfg file keep wiping out my settings. Wonder if I have a bad setup and maybe should just kill the program and reinstall it.

What command line arguments are you passing to the service?

How's that for a challenge?
