I've been spoiled with fast 400+ point QMD folds the past few weeks. Then had a few 50pt quickies (6-7 hr) the last few days. Now both 3.0GHz P4's got 400+ pointer Gromacs p2102_lambda_5way_melt. Each of the 100 steps is taking over 1hr (even on the overclocked 3.4Ghz one). Looks like it'll be a while before I get more points posted!

On another note, I finally got those 2 eBay used P4 MB's with 2.26GHz cpu’s and started working on my diskless farm. Also got a cheap KVM switch on eBay. I made one MB the server and have it up and running Fedora with LTSP. I have the other MB booting off LAN and see it hitting the server MB in /var/log/message, but it’s still not firing up the FAH client for some reason when it boots. Currently researching why in free time, but I hope to have 2 more CPU up an running soon!

Not sure if I’ll be folding next week, as I’ll be out of town all week for a training class (anyone know much about IBM MessagBroker?). Staying a few blocks away from Slick Willies trailer library in LR lol. Wish I had a Club Gitmo hat or shirt for a picture…hehehe

Those numbers are bad luck. You watch, your house will go on fire, the cops will arrest you and you'll get in a plane crash after winning the lotto.

Those are probably the most played Lotto numbers in history. You'd split the one of those 200+ million pots a zillion ways. Prolly be enough to buy yourself lunch for a couple weeks after the split and the gov't was through with ya.

One zero, and another....01011010

Huh?

I have a few questions, if you don't mind,

When I turn off my laptop, I lose up to the last 1/2 hour of work. Is that right?

What should I set my check point frequency to, if I turn the computer off at least twice a day?

Is my premise correct?

It's a geek thing I suppose :). I don't have the link on this machine, but there's a binary, hex, decimal, base 64 calculator, input text, get binary(01011101) etc.

As to the amount of lost work, it depends on how often you set your checkpoint. If you right-click, configure, it's an option in there. It defaults to 15 minutes. You can set it to 3 minutes if you choose or 30 minutes or whatever, it's a slider. It robs some cycles during the save and you lose a little efficiency, but if you're concerned set it lower. I set mine for 10 minutes.

LOL!

I'm no further ahead on the zero and one thing, but your explanation was very entertaining. Thanks!

I've been setting it to 30 mins. when my L/T will be running for a few hours, or more.

I reset it to every 5-10 mins before I turn it off.

Is this helping me to retain more of the work?

(Now I'm sounding like a geek. That's a good thing, right?)

okay, I am up and running! This is so cool...

Welcome, it's a major rush, isn't it. In about 3 days you will pop-up on the results page, soon after you finish your first WU. Then the bug really kicks in as you track your progress. Have fun!

I think you're worrying too much. Just set it and forget it. The impact is minimal. Losing up to 20 minutes a day is frankly meaningless.

Only if you wait 5-10 minutes before turning it off.

Ummm... I like his answer better than mine. Really, if your in this for the long haul (and I hope you are), then 20 minutes/day ain't squat. Remember, all of us here just do what we can do, but we got Klutz,Malusa, and a couple others on our six. You'll be fine.
