We're cool :)

I can sort of understand why JR doesn't want the FR name being tossed about too casually. I personally think that there's no real downside to using the name in this particular case, but it's not my call, so my opinion doesn't amount to much. But the place is what it is because of the community that's grown up around the website - I don't think it's surprising (or especially objectionable) that people would carry that sense of community into other things as well.

I look at it as an identity that's more than just this message board here. Think if it this way - even if the United States doesn't sponsor or endorse every thing I do, I'm still an American. It's a part of who we are.

Let's start the re-naming campaign.

Post your suggestions and logos.

I agree. Momentary lapse into self pity. It's gone now. :-)

Very disappointed in FR at this point.

Yep, you can't buy good PR like this, but, it's his house and his rules.

Will pull my CPUs tomorrow.

Please DON'T. We'll rename the team and continue with this worthwhile effort.

Take the FR logo and link off and leave it as is. There was a Freepers team at SETI@HOME for years, without any trouble.

This is what I meant about the term Freeper. We are feepers wether Jim agrees with everything we do or not. We are a community, and the term Freeper Identifies the community we are apart of, just as calling my self an American does. (and yes I do realise this isn't completely analogous becuase one is a private entity with a owner and the other govermental entity with a democracy, however I think the community aspect of the analogy stands.)

However, I can see where you are coming from also Petronski.

Take the FR logo and link off and leave it as is.

OK. REMOVED the logo. REMOVED the link. TEAM NAME: 'Free Republic Folders' replaces 'FreeRepublic.com Folders' --------- We can make future changes but we should be OK for now.

Well, my work units are going to keep running, for team 36120, either way. But I'd prefer a non-FR name...sort of like cleaving a clean break with one fell stroke.

How about a disclaimer - "Freeper Folders. Not sanctioned or endorsed by FreeRepublic.com."

That seems like a good idea for all future discussion and logos, if any are allowed. With this disclaimer, might the name still be used? Because we can't rename and keep the stats, you'd have to start from 0 if using a new name. If this disclaimer still isn't adequate then we'd have to respect the wishes of the site owners out of decency I think. I won't assume or judge the opinion.

At a minimum they should take the mention of freerepublic.com out of the logo on the stat page. Maybe revert back to the crying baby emblem of the democrat party instead :)

I'm working on an 852 point unit(!) after that I'll decide whether to continue.

I think this project had too high a profile, where with so many postings it was constantly being bumped to the top of the discussion. That probably annoyed people here. I'm not saying this is the real reason or that the other given reasons given aren't true or more important, just that it was probably another aggravating factor.

That seems fine to me. But it might be best to check with JR. He might not want FR mentioned at all. Personally, I would like to leave some mention of FR in. I love FR. But I will go with the flow on this.

After thinking about it some, I think you're right. Make a clean break of it.

Where does one see the point value of an incomplete unit?

So my current 3750-frame WU is worth 222 points! Yeowza, I only have 260 so far. Nice.

Yeap. And that should be moving along fairly fast. I think it runs around 30s/frame on my computers.
