I can sort of understand why JR doesn't want the FR name being tossed about too casually. I personally think that there's no real downside to using the name in this particular case, but it's not my call, so my opinion doesn't amount to much. But the place is what it is because of the community that's grown up around the website - I don't think it's surprising (or especially objectionable) that people would carry that sense of community into other things as well.
I look at it as an identity that's more than just this message board here. Think if it this way - even if the United States doesn't sponsor or endorse every thing I do, I'm still an American. It's a part of who we are.

This is what I meant about the term Freeper. We are feepers wether Jim agrees with everything we do or not. We are a community, and the term Freeper Identifies the community we are apart of, just as calling my self an American does. (and yes I do realise this isn't completely analogous becuase one is a private entity with a owner and the other govermental entity with a democracy, however I think the community aspect of the analogy stands.)
