Here's a couple pictures of Augustine from ground level or air. I seem to remember that the late Kraffts (famous and somewhat reckless volcano photographers) did some nuee ardente photography on the slopes of Augustine. However, they were unsatisfied with the results, so later on they went to Mount Unzen in Japan, and a larger-than-expected nuee ardente incinerated them. If you play with fire...

In case you don't read the keywords, Augustine Volcano is an island in Cook Inlet, about 170 miles from Anchorage.

We made a big mistake in 2000. Gore woulda, coulda stopped this gas emission by following the Kyoto Accords agreement!!!
A Cata_Cylmer_istic converter and Mayna_Key Muffler and that SUV, (Sudden Upheaval Volcano)woulda been under control!

It is just a test.
Since Bush had such success with his hurricane machine, he is testing a volcano machine.

Great images!!
As someone who lived thru countless eruptions of Mt. St. Helens
I find such pictures endlessly fascinating!

wow ~
it's amazing how much this particular image looks like Mt. Hood without snow

Volcanoes are fascinating.
That being said, there is nothing new here with the whole west coast being one long chain of active and inactive (they are all active, but it is just a matter of timing)volcanoes.
I've visited the Johnson Observatory near Mt St. Helens and find all of the activity at and below ground level to be very interesting .

Thats awesome. You can see the spit in Homer from the sattelite pic. I think there are a couple of observation points on the western side of the Kenai peninsula where you can see the volcano from a distance.

Didn't notice that. Awesome. I guess Redoubt is the other acive volcano. Beautiful drive from Anchorage to Homer. I could do without some of the liberal whackos in Homer though.

Was down in Anchorage a few years when one of the volcanoes, I don't know their names but there are a lot of them, was steaming. It seemed fairly close to Anchorage, like Vesuvius is near Naples.

Fairbanks. Nice town. I'm sure it is as cold as hell. Spent a couple of weeks there and travelled north on the Dalton Highway to Coldfoot once.
