Just seconds after being named this season's Apprentice, Randal Pinkett made his first executive decision -- he instructed Donald Trump not to hire his competitor Rebecca Jarvis.
"I think there should be only one apprentice," he said when Trump asked if Jarvis should also be hired. "I think that's the way it should be."
While it was obvious The Donald had planned on offering jobs to both candidates, Trump did not hesitate in granting Pinkett's wish and making him the sole Apprentice.
For Jarvis this was a huge slap in the face.
Not only did the 23-year-old outshine Pinkett during their final tasks -- hosting different fundraising events -- she has an exceptional resume, including starting a children's charity at only 15-years-old.
"Rebecca, I think you are brilliant and you have a tremendous future. Basically, I am stuck with two stars," said Trump.
In the end, it was Pinkett's extensive education (he's a Rhodes Scholar who attended both Oxford and MIT) and leadership abilities that won The Donald over.
"Randal, you have been outstanding. Rarely have I seen a leader as good as you," said Trump just moments before announcing his choice during the show's live finale at the Lincoln Centre in New York.
Although Pinkett was a shoo-in to win The Apprentice from the start, he failed to impress the boss during his last challenge, running a celebrity softball game and auction.
The 34-year-old, who did not check the weather forecast and was, therefore, caught off guard when it began to rain, did manage to pull off the auction segment of the event inside the baseball arena, but Trump and his executives were disappointed in the final product.
Jarvis, however, planned an exceptional event for Yahoo, right down to the little purple flashing light ice cubes that were served in the drinks. But her team failed to raise any money for their charity, which Trump felt was unacceptable.
As the winner of this season's The Apprentice, Pinkett will oversee massive construction projects at Trump's three hotels and casinos in Atlantic City.
Meanwhile, season five of The Apprentice is set to air next spring.
What made me laugh is that every week they kept saying it's a 12 week interview process. It isn't 12 weeks at all. Rebecca broke her ankle right at the start and was still on crutches at the end, it does not take 12 weeks for a bone to heal.
Don't worry about her, I'm sure she has 50 job offers by 10am.
The week she broke it, they said 7 weeks.
Did anyone ask the Rams to share the Super Bowl trophy with Tennessee when Tennessee fell a mere inches short of the winning score in SB XXXIV? In a contest to pick "The Apprentice" there can be only one. It has always been advertised as such, played as such, and that's part of the show's appeal. Good people have been fired before. Just being a "star" does not make you the winner of the Apprentice or grant you any special right to be hired.
Asking Randall to essentially share his victory was bad taste. Trump has gotten rid of stars before, regardless of how good they might have been for his company because that's the way the whole show was set up.
Rebecca was certainly the most competitve #2 in the show's 4 seasons, and she will go on to have a great career no matter what she does. She may even work for Trump one day....perhaps in the very near future.
I don't think there is a right or wrong answer here. Either way Randall went, I would stand by his decision to do so.
All I know is the only player that I ever saw doing anything impressive, wasn't one of the two finalist, was the older blond with the accent. She was the only one I saw getting it done in the few episodes I watched.
The only thing I can think is that it took Randall off guard being live. Maybe he was in shock from winning. It just seemed out of character.
I think Trump should have just hired her if he wanted to. She was great!
That's to be expected from a Rhodes Scholar. Being an arrogant bastard is a prerequisite for that distinction. The selection committee is quite strict on this.
ex.: Wesley Clark, Russ Feingold, Bill Clinton .....
If anyone can come up with an example of a true patriotic conservative who was a Rhodes Scholar, I'd be interested to see the name. And no, Dick Lugar doesn't meet that standard!
Oh no, Randall had prepared for this possibility. Before he was hired he had made a comment where he asked the other candidates if they thought he should be "The sole Apprentice".
Yahoo's squatty Cruella DeVille just offered Rebecca a job on the Today Show. Rebecca said she'd like to continue the conversation off camera.
You can bet Miss Rebecca had an offer for a job last night before the celebration was over and the TV cameras were packed up.
If I won something, I'd expect it to only be me.

In one of the prior seasons, I believe there was an instance where Donald asked someone in the board room, who was supposedly in the clear that week, a question concerning one of the other competitors...I think the person arrogantly agreed to go into the board room feeling untouchable. The Donald fired the person for being stupid.
Does that make sense enough for someone to recognize the episode?
I have a neighbor who was a Rhodes Scholar, received a full ride scholarship to Vassar, and turned it down to become a full-time Mom. They have ten children, all very intelligent, well-behaved kids. She currently home schools the younger ones.
She is also one of the most humble, kind-hearted and patriotic people I know. Apparently, she fooled the selection committee. ;-)
They've begun letting in a few women so as to appear PC. But make no mistake, it's been a Fabianesque boys club since its round table beginnings.
We'd be a far stronger Republic without these undermining foreign influences.
The majority of Rhodes Scholars are nothing but sleeper cells with better curriculum vitaes.
Precisely my take. It made everyone look bad except for Rebecca. The reactions I saw on another blog was mostly that Randal was behaving like a jerk or that it was wrong of Trump to immediately steal his thunder - some saying it was racist of Trump to force Randal to "share" the moment with the white runner-up since he didn't make Bill (the white winner) do that for Kwame (the black runner-up) in Season 1.
I also feel Rebecca wasn't really qualified. She says the right things but gets the wrong results. She lost two of her three tasks as project manager by making bad decisions and really lost the final task by downplaying the charity. She is young, charming and tenacious and I do think Trump wants to hire her. The "big surprise" alluded to in the show's previews was obvious that Trump would offer jobs to both. Asking Randal was an awkward thing to do but I'm sure Trump expected Randal to just praise Rebecca and make him look smart for hiring the both of them. Instead Randal blew up the whole plan in Trump's face. He was left on live TV to either diss the advice of his new apprentice or make it look like Randal "fired" Rebecca instead of him. This was truly not the outcome everyone had led up to all night.
I was going mostly on info posted on another blog with links to other reality-following websites. Kwame (Season 1) is raking in the money on the lecture circuit. I don't think anyone has kept up with Jenn M who is probably back in some law practice. Tana is selling up a storm as it seems to be her one true talent in life.
Kelly, IIRC, has already left and Kendra got out of her contract although I saw her in one of the crowd shots last night looking thinner and never smiled (you'll see her near the Yahoo exec announcing the donation). I can't honestly recall if Bill had been talked into one more year or if he was leaving too. Wouldn't surprise me if their $250,000 salaries get cut drastically after the first year too. Bottom line is that these apprentices don't have much shelf life and the runners-up seem to be doing better thanks to being available after all that exposure.
BTW, Martha Stewart has been publicly blasting her candidates as "opportunists and exhibitionists" and regrets that she will have to hire one of them. It's down to Dawna, the dull but efficient magazine publisher or Bethenny, the frantic food chef.
The "older blonde" you were referring to was Alla, the former Vegas stripper (a fact the producers hid).
That was Bradford in season 2. He had the "exemption" from firing but when his team lost the next week, he felt so strongly that his teammtes were good that he waived it in order to stand by his teammates. Trump fired him for being stupid enough to waive his exemption.
