That's to be expected from a Rhodes Scholar. Being an arrogant bastard is a prerequisite for that distinction. The selection committee is quite strict on this.

If anyone can come up with an example of a true patriotic conservative who was a Rhodes Scholar, I'd be interested to see the name. And no, Dick Lugar doesn't meet that standard!

I have a neighbor who was a Rhodes Scholar, received a full ride scholarship to Vassar, and turned it down to become a full-time Mom. They have ten children, all very intelligent, well-behaved kids. She currently home schools the younger ones.

She is also one of the most humble, kind-hearted and patriotic people I know. Apparently, she fooled the selection committee. ;-)

Wasn't actor singer Chris Kristofferson a Rhodes Scholar? I don't know what political animal he is but he's never given me the impression that he's an arrogant s.o.b., at least not on camera interviews. Maybe he is in private?

Wasn't George Will a Rhodes Scholar? Or did he just attend Oxford outside of the Rhodes program?
